Dr. Chill - New Z06 will ROCK!
Dr. Chill,
Have you seen the new released photos of the new Z06? GM is "pissed" that the cat is out of the bag. This will be a serious car, 0-60 3.5 sec, and will be available as a targa and cabrio.
Spoke to my local dealer and he told me that targa and cabrio models will be in the mid to high $70K's. Will be interesting since this is a price market that Corvette has never been in, but with the type of performance that this car will have people will buy it no questions asked.
It sounds like this car will be the best bargin exotic beater ever

yeah i know. they said it was their estimate. they also said the specs were available on the internet if you looked hard enough. to me it means they are sticking with what they have estimated all along but you could get what specs were released with the photos if you searched hard enough. with all of the other techincal info i assume the 3.8 is probably what gm is quoting. my 2c.

The new z06 is badass. I highly doubt that it's going to be north of 70K. The c6 coupe is actually less expensive than the 2004 c5 coupe. Why would they add 20K+ to the tag of the z06 then? I would be surprised if the base price on the z06 was north of 62-65K.

Your dealer has been lying to you my friend. The Z06 will most likely not come in a covert, or Targa Top Setup, but just straight Coupé like the last model. The Z06 is all about perfromance, and bang for the buck. So why would GM screw up the Z line of cars with the vette by making a Convertible version which would add more weight and would be alot slower? I hope that maybe my bro will check this car out, he wants a 911 turbo, but why pay that much money when you can get this.
Expect 1/4 times of anywhere from 11.6-12.3 depending on driver. Maybe even a few 11.5s. So why does the Dodge Viper exist again?

So, to answer your question. The Viper exists to own the Corvette (on both the track & 1/4 mile), plain and simple. I sure don't see people staring, drooling, and crowding around any C5's or C6's, that's for sure. I am also a former C5 owner...

You may be right but the General Manager of the dealership sounded very sure of himself that the car will be offered in other versions other then coupe. He was telling me that GM missed a big market of buyers for this car with the previous version. Imagine how many more Z06's would be on the road if the C5 model had a targa or a convertible?
Look how well the Ferrari Spider, Porsche TT Cabrio, Carrera GT, the new Lambo..........
A loaded C6 convertible will run you close to $60K so a convertible Z06 will have easily a $10K price bump. I agree that a coupe could be closer to low to mid 60's.
Will be a AWESOME car Corvette is getting back into exotic performance numbers and is attracting buyers who have only bought Italian or German in the past.
Made In America Baby!!!!!!!

Just in case you'd like to know, a 2001 GTS TT just ran an 8.78@167 with a stock transmisson, full interior, and non-professional driver. I don't see any streetable Corvette's running times like that.

I wasn't talking about SRT10's buddy, I'm talking about the GTS -- why are you switching things around? Your response was nothing short of pathetic. Here's the Viper which just ran an 8.75 yesterday. It even made it down the track without blowing up. You can contact Jason Heffner at Heffner's Performance if you would like. I'm sure he'd like to hear how the car he built will soon blow up.

The reason why I bought my Z06 was because of the hype building for this upcoming supercar. I became enamored with the C6 in pics but when it arrived, I thought the C5 Z06 was more fun to drive than the Z51 equipped C6, and that the C6 looked better in pics. I also picked up my Z06 new for only $38,000 ($54,000 sticker). Now with the $27,000 I saved over the C6 Z06, I can add a lot of hp goodies along with big brakes and suspension and cooling mods that are necessary for track use........and still have $10,000 left over. Unfortunately Dave Hill wasn't really listening to current Z06 owners when developing the new car because they told him they wanted fewer creature comfort goodies and seatbacks with slots for race harnesses and a lower price tag. The new Z06 will be in short supply due to the hand built 427 cubic inch engine and limited production run, and this will keep them selling at or near MSRP after the first bunch of idiots pay over sticker for them.
Regarding the Viper, it has never been and likely never will be a better daily driver than the Vette. It is harder for the average driver to control on a road course and yes, maybe it is faster than a Vette on the strip, but so is a 572 cubic inch Chevy Nova.
If it's pure hp you want, a stage 2 or 3 twin turbo setup or one of the soon to be released Kenne-Bell twin-screw supercharger setups on a forged motor pushing 18 lbs of boost for the C5 is in order. This will raise power to over 600 rwhp and give insane low end torque as well on a car that in stock form weighs 3100 lbs. All this for around $18,000 installed or less. Try increasing the hp by over 250 on a Mercedes and how much would that cost?

You forgot about the Hennesey vipers
Also yes it can run 8.75 thats nice an all, but lets see how long it can last on that clutch. Was the car driven to the event? was it driven home? Thats the whole point of the LPE Vettes, drive them there, run them, drive them home. Not to mention LPE is just now starting to work on the lew C6 Vette. Lets see how long that viper record last once LPE gets done with their car. Also im sure Titan isnt going to take this sitting down.

You never answered my question on the SRT10s time around the Nurburgring. What did it run compared to the Z06 7.56.

I think a C6 Vette with $40,000 in upgrades would OWN a stock Viper.
SL65's and Ford GT's are built to own Vipers. That's an equivalent statement to yours.

There are plenty of 8 second Camaros/Firebirds/Mustangs around that are street driven as well. Here's a couple.
8.29 sec twin turbo Firebird
7.196 sec 200 mph Mustang
Same Mustang street driven

Yeah, but there's gonna be a million Vette's on the road in a few months. How many Vipers do you see per year? A fraction of what you see compard to the Corvette.
You can buy a 98 GTS for mid $40's, so your comparison is pointless.

As far as Hennessey, they use to own the record but had to use a TT & NOS. Now, it's no longer their record.

You're talking about 2 different classes of cars pricewise. A 98 C5 is under $20k. We're not talking about a 6 year old car vs a new car. Old Vipers are not so special and certainly aren't good as daily drivers. The new ones are much better.
