RMS Job - While You’re In There(s)?

Paging bbirdwell! The E55 I picked up a few months ago has properly been diagnosed as I suspected with a leaking rear main. Also told my remaining vibration issue is guibo discs. I’ve got flywheel bolts, driveshaft center support bearing, rear main plate and seal, 2 sets of guibo’s and hardware. I’m happy to have the car sit if I see anything else while I have the tranny down, but thought I may ask y’all about any other easy access parts I should take care of while accessible. Tranny was rebuilt not long ago so I don’t think a fresh connector is necessary.

The hose assembly connecting the heater control valve to the rear of the driver's side engine head. That damn hose cost me ~40 days because of one inaccessible hose clamp...

You going to do it yourself? If so, let me know and I'll see when I can break free. You will need the super-special sealant from Mercedes for the rear plate plus the rear main seal installation tool.

See attachments. At some point I need to replace my RMS but I'd like to wait a few months and rebuild the transmission while it is out of the car.

Thank you sir! Yes I’m going to give it a shot sometime in the next few weeks here. I’ll shoot you a text if you’d like to stop by and see it in action.

Part assembly #10 in the upper diagram. PN:
HOSE, FEED TO ENGINE, QTY 001, A 21 183 278 94

https://nemigaparts.com/cat_spares/e...76/64u/83/181/

Rene should have no problem obtaining one for you. He heard my sad tale of woe multiple times while I was ordering/receiving parts from him.

Assy #500 does not exist on my W211 E55 engine. The hose connects directly to the rear of the cylinder head.

For the rear main I always replaced the rear main seal cover with a new one just for the hell of it. Saves you the time trying to clean up a filthy cover and trying to get all the sealant off as well. A long time ago the seal actually came in the new cover but no more.

Interesting…I wonder why they changed it. Sure would be easier to install the seal off the motor and install together (without the special install tool).

@HemiAlex
What would be the chances of borrowing your RMS installation tool? I'll gladly reimburse shipping cost.

You can actually get the seal in the cover on the bench and then instll the whole cover and just work the seal around the crank end. That'show I do it with out the tool.
Odviously the tool is best but....

@Jake528

RMS installation tool is enroute to me courtesy of HemiAlex.

May I ask you to PM your contact info and address to me? I'm on my third phone since I met you and I cannot seem to locate your contact information...it didn't help that I nuked my contacts list when I deleted what I thought was a non-essential Google App...

Don’t forget your feminine napkins for your seat in the car you drive. That would be good prevention for saving the leather in your drivers seat.
