Will Hre's For A W211 E55 Fit The Cls55?

I have a brand new set of 20X9 FR and 20X10 RR HRE 547R's that I ordered for my '05 E55 shortly before I was rear ended by an A-hole speeding 16 year old. I ordered a CLS55 just days after the accident which is due in May and I would like to know if these rims that I have will be compatible with my CLS. I have heard that the CLS uses the SL55's brakes and hubs and I have heard that the SL55's setup is different than the E55's. Does anyone know if they will fit properly? Or will I be selling them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They should work fine but they may sit further in the wheel well. You might need to add spacer to bring them out, id guess a 5mm one.

Don't have much information regarding the CLS. If the offset & bolt patterns are the same for the two vehicles, which is quite unlikely, it'll fit. However, as you know that HRE are custom made wheels. The wheels will ONLY fit for the car that it was initially made for.

Sorry to hear about your accident, I wish you a speedy recovery.

It is my understanding that the CLS sits on the same chassis as the E...I would find it kinda hard to believe that MB would reconfigure anything.

No word from HRE since they have not had a chance to fit a CLS yet as I too was in your dilema...at least you have a chance, I went with a CL55 and found out that my HRE's will not fit at all without modifications on the rear (have to send back to HRE) and fronts will just not work at all so I"m going to be selling my 547R's for sure.

Good luck, but I personally think it will fit. Why don't you wait til you get the car and try it and if it doesn't work, sell them. But at least try it, why "throw away" $7K+

Ideally I would like to wait and try to put them on when the car arrives but I have to consider the potential loss of value once they are taken out of the boxes, mounted and balanced. If I have to sell them, I will obviously need to get as much money for them as possible in order to get a new set made. The bolt pattern is the same without a doubt, its the offsets that are the concern.

Will HRE take the wheels back on trade and build you a new set for the CLS since you have not even opened the boxes yet?

My Screen Name was my Skyline GT-R's Chassis Code. It's Vspec number 003121. I just sold the car and havent changed my SN yet.

The E55 is already in the process of repairs. Its at Phil Thearle's Autowerks in San Diego. I will be trading it in in May when my CLS55 is expected. Poor car, its only got 3700 miles on it! What a waste.

I opened the rim boxes on arrival to make sure that everything was ok but I havent opened them since. They are so bad, it will suck if they dont fit.

I'm sure he'll have no trouble, selling the wheels at what he bought them for. I mean they aren't even opened. I'm sure an E55 owner looking for HRE's will buy them really soon, so that he/she doesn't have to wait for the wheels to get built.

Just my .02. I'd definetly buy them at whatever you purchased them for, so that I wouldn't have to wait.

Push the envelope, sell the 20's, and get 22" HRE's... 22's are possible, I know they look NBA-Playerized, but they look soooo bad on HREs!!! I saw one of the NJ Nets cars, it was a CLS500 on 22" HRE's with the black centers and polished lip, it's stance was nastyyy!

You must be referring to the 940 Series. Wheels are made for large vehicle applications such as the Bentley GT, Rolls Royce Phantom, MB Maybach, etc etc.

I received my dealer pricing, not too long ago from HRE.

Wow, small world. I'm actually in GA just a couple of hundred miles south of TN. I'm in the process of changing my name, getting a new website. Hopefully, by time it's all done, I'll be sponsoring Mbworld.org. Some products that I plan on carrying for MB:

+ Brabus
+ Lorinser
+ RENNtech
+ MKB
+ Zauber
+ AMG
+ Eisenmann
+ Kleeman
+ Auto Couture
+ HRE
+ Iforged

As you can see, pretty much all the big tuning companies that are available for the Mercedes-Benz line up.

The SL55 and the E55 use pretty much the same design brakes and hubs. The spindle is different on a regular W211, but the E55 gets the SL55 spindle.

The CLS55, although riding on the chassis of the W211, has a wider body. The offset of the wheels is lower to push the wheels out to be more flush with the body. In some cases, the CLS (such as the CLS350) uses a higher offset wheel, but the space is there for extremely low offset wheels.

The E55 normally uses a medium offset in front and a higher offset in rear (around ET30 front, around ET40 rear). The CLS prefers more even offsets all the way around, and works well with as low as ET20. So if the HREs you are getting are following the "best" fitment for the E55, and I imagine they would, the best fit for these wheels on a CLS would use a 5-10mm spacer on the front and a 15-20mm spacer on the rear. HRE generally fits the wheels better than people who say "SL55/SL65 wheels fit just fine on the W211", because the R230 wheels are too low an offset in rear for good fitment. R230 wheels tend to fit the CLS series much better.

I have gotten a few emails from some of our members who are interested in purchasing my HRE 547R 20's. I may sell them if I get the right offer. I decided I want to go with a different set anyway for the new car not to mention the possible fitment issue on the CLS55 seeing as they are for an E55. If you are interested, PM me. Local pickup in the LA area is preffered. They are for the W211 E55 and are 20X9 and 20X10 with brushed aluminum finish and etched HRE center caps. They are still in the boxes, I opened them just to inspect them and they are all flawless. I also have the Potenza S-03PP tires for them. The front tires are brand new, the rears have 95 miles on them. I will offer them as a set with the tires. Let me know if interested.
