2010 E550.. Gone but never forgotton - E63 AMG..
Does the new E63 have the alcantera suade headliner ?
I had an 08 E63 and loved the alcantara headliner,gave a real rich classy feel to the interior of the car. Just really stood out from the rest of the pact.. When my lease is up in 2013 Id love to pick up a CPO 2010 E63..

I still need to warm up to the rear end of the 63. I'm totally sold on the front, but still can't get over the ugly, mutant-like, exhaust tips. I actually saw an Accord Crosstour today and it reminded me of the E63 exhaust tips. Anyways, I'd still take the 63 with the new 5.5 TT-V8, but probably not as a 1st model year car. With MBZ, I'll probably wait till face-lift.

They did do a lot of cost cutting which shows. It's disappointing and also puzzling. At this level I would think people might pay a little extra to get those amenities. Also Nappa leather (in the US market) is not standard on the new E63.
The build quality and the technology that is in the car is a positive thing. But the materials are not. Daimler AG announced a lot more parts bin sharing and it shows in the 2010 models.

It appears that the 2011s will have the alcantara headliner and stitched dash as standard - according to the benzblogger.com website which does a nice job listing the 2011 MY changes. I hope that is the case as it would be a nice upgrade for a car in this price class.

I'm glad Daimler and MBUSA realized it was a big mistake to cut corners on a car of this level.
'Never buy the first year model' always rings true, I guess.

Man I would be PISSED if I got a 2010 E63 and the Alcantara comes back in 2011.... The Nappa seats with Alcantara inserts would just be another Tyson blow to the head.
Things like Alcantara headliner and those jazzy seats of the pre-'10 AMG E's are big musts, just no way around that. Cost cutting those out is pretty ridiculous. Glad to hear they'll hopefully be back.

When you say your car is "scheduled to arrive next week", do you mean at the Port in the U.S. or at your dealership? I am anxious to pick up my 2011 E63 but have only heard from the dealer to date that they will be released sometime "this month". Just wondering if you had any more information.

The car is currently at the port in Florida. The official release date for the 2011 E63 is next Monday, July 12. On Monday, the car will wholesale to my dealer and ship. The car should arrive here in Houston by Thursday or Friday (so I'm told).

Speaking of options, etc., I noticed that there's now a "build your own" on AMG's website.
They list the seat leather as Nappa. So I guess it's "Nappa grade/style" but instead of being soft and smooth as it used to be, it's been embossed. That embossed pebble grain style makes it look and feel just like the basic leather.
But it's smart that they brought back the Alcantara headliner and now a stitched dash. The headliner on the 2010 is really cheap looking.

I'm wondering if you have heard anything on the delivery date of your E63? According to my dealer again today, MB still hasn't released them and he doesn't know when that will be - other then to say he has heard it will be soon.

When my dealer sent me the MSRP sheet on Monday he told me the car would be here between Wednesday and Friday of this week.

I spoke to my dealer today. He told me that MB has released the car to them (they wholesale'd the car). He called the port to find out if the car had shipped and it had not. The story they told me is that the car wasn't listed as "Priority 1" so it hasn't shipped yet - not sure if I buy that but it is what it is. So at this stage of the game I'm not sure when I'll get the car but tomorrow doesn't look to promising

Thanks for the update. My dealer indicated to me this afternoon that the release date is "scheduled" to be July 22. So I am not sure your dealer is playing it straight with you - although I would be happy if their earlier release date were true . . . I will keep you posted if I hear any more. I hope you will do the same.
