Totally I get that same issue even crawling over uneven lane way or other bumps where the angle of the body of the car is say 30 or more degrees I get this weird pop noise sound horrible! Is there a fix? Mine has full war entry still. ?Originally Posted by racer m
My E63 is about 8 months old and I have the panoramic sunroof. Lately, when I have been getting chassis flex (entering driveways with substantial steering angle, negotiating large speed bumps) I have heard a loud popping noise which seems to be coming from the moon roof, C pillar area. It is somewhat startling as sometimes it sounds as if the glass is about to break! I haven't taken it to the dealer yet, as I would have to drive around with a technician looking for driveways or speed bumps to demonstrate the issue. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem or heard of it? Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

Brought mine into the dealership exactly 3 weeks ago now. Had them remove entire headliner and re-torque all perimeter bolts on both sides. Since then, car has had zero issues with no signs of creaking/popping sounds of any kind.
Hope this helps

I had the same issue with my 12' E63. Took it to the dealer and they fixed (warranty) Its a common problem.

I have a 2012 E350 Coupe, my car is in the shop as we speak. They are indeed removing the roof liner and tightening the bolts. It started off with pops when chassis flex in any way and then it became creaks and then started getting louder and louder. I also noticed it was dependent on temperature (The glass material has a different expansion rate than the metal frame it sits in). They are fixing it right now. Keep y'all posted on the final outcome/costs. Hopefully no cost as I brought it in during warranty for this and it was not resolved.

My 2015 E63 S had the creaking from the pano roof. Dealer dropped the roof liner, tightened all the bolts and all is good.

We have a 2015 E63 w/ pana roof and I noted that when coming to the driveway at an angle (we have a steep driveway), I can sometimes hear this popping noise. But if I backed up and did the same thing it would not make the same noise. My wife noted this more since she drives the car more.Originally Posted by e63amgeee

My dealer at Escondido MB, was willing to try to reproduce the issue. It took the technician three tries and he heard it loud and clear coming into their own hilly dealer after leaving the car under the sun for sometime (it's pretty hot here now). Long story short, the whole roof lining and the sunroof was removed and found two broken tabs on the roof rack assembly. The technician surmises that the assembly was not well aligned at the factory and chassis flexing over my driveway broke the tabs. Since he realigned the roof, I have nothing. No more oiling and BS stories.
Hope this helps.

I had the same issue on mine and they kept on saying they can't replicate it. grr, even after i drove around and found a driveway with the tech that replicate it.
Fast forward a few months and i game up with an idea to replicate. I asked them to place it on the left and only left up one wheel. Immediately you heard the land popping sound in the glass at back. They spent about 2 weeks fixing it and it has not done it since. Don't let them tell you they can't find it, its a known issue and my guess is very costly/timely to fix. Now if only they can fix my "remote entry" so the car unlocks when i walk up to it. instead of blaming it on my radar detector. grrr

2014 E63 S here and I have been getting these creaks since day 1. Happens when I put one of the front wheels onto a driveway and it loads up that wheels suspension then I get a loud bang from the roof as others have described. Makes me worried that one day the pano glass will shatter.

I have not yet read about shattering but this should be addressed by the dealerOriginally Posted by kimsd

I been contemplating having the dealer look at it. Not really too thrilled about their mechanics taking apart my roof and putting it back if this a trait of the W212.Originally Posted by PeterUbers

Will report back if I have the dealer take a look at it.

Got the car back today. Dealer removed headliner and fixed issues. All is right in the world again...and certainly less noisy. Definitely waited too long to have this corrected.

Mine had this from day one...it was fixed immediately by the dealer who had prior experience with other cars that had the same issue and it has not happened again.

Good point. I would be ok with a little creak as long as there is no leaks.Originally Posted by AlbertM
I have the same problem. But it happens so rarely (only under certain "flexing" situations) that it does not really bother me much. I would not want the dealer to take my roof apart. From my experience dealers may actually introduce more problems than they fix, especially for something like that.

Just out of curiosity, how long does this fix take? Can I wait while it's done or should I plan on being without the car for a couple days?

So far most dealers have been able to take it apart, re-grease and put back together with good results

Yes at least a full day's worth (meaning it will take a couple of days at the dealership)Originally Posted by 1809

Looks like the dealer is going to have my car up to a week to fix the sunroof flex. Predictably they broke something dropping the headliner and have to fix that now as well. Idiots... I dropped the headliner on my old Tahoe and I had zero experience with the vehicle, yet it took me a couple hours (working from the service manuals) and I broke absolutely nothing. Why the f didn't they issue a formal recall for this? It seems to happen to EVERY W212 owner.
If you come straight forward into my driveway the front would touch. I have to angel in and out every time in/out and never had an issue.
BTW I am on NYC roads every drive is a speed bump.
I am lucky to not have any issues as yet i guess.

My car does it too. Glad you all posted your experiences and findings. I thought it was just not a very rigid car and flexed a lot so I didn't think there was much use bringing up the issue to the dealer.
I will be scheduling an appointment to get it repaired......I am glad there is a fix because it irritates the hell out of me and I am sure my clients are thinking the car is a piece of crap when it happens. lol
