Adding Oil and the Dipstick

Hey fellas - I checked my oil dipstick today and its totally different from the one in they pictured in the owners manual. It looks exactly like the one in the pic in the first post of this thread:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...evel-pics.html

Have you guys added oil to your cars yet and does the above pic mark the correct positions for the min/max level on the dip stick? Unclear to me and I dont want to add too much oil and then have to extract it.

Thanks

pics are accurate. that max and min levels are marked correctly

over the 9K miles i've driven, i've added almost 5 quarts. it's completely normal. every car a is a little different and how you drive makes a difference too.

Same here, I've added about 4 qts in 5000 miles. These motors do use some oil.

Thanks fellas. I added 3/4 of a qt today and I'm back in the band. So I guess I'm not eating as much oil as some of you guys out there.

Pardon the ignorance but on my 65 and W211 55 I used the center gauge to check the oil. Do we have that option here??

Question

My W212 E63 used to eat 2 quarts every 3K miles until my first 10K service. I am at around 16K now and push the car very hard on a daily basis and so far not a quart more of oil. It is like it is stopped eating oil after the 1st service. Any ideas? My 2008 E63 kept eating oil for as long as owned it (until around 50K), I had to add 2 quarts every 4-5K miles. Why is that?

fwiw, my 2009 W211 E63 ate oil (about the same as you) until around 10-12k. I'm at 19.5k right now and it hasn't used any oil at all since 10-12k. I guess maybe it just depends on each sample, how it was broken in and seated itself, etc.. I did change out the break-in oil at around 1k and then did another at around 5k and then at 10k. Now I'm going with the normal longer OCIs. My UOAs show very few metals and silicon (from the seals.) I think the break-in on these motors is around 15k-18k. btw, it's the same with the NA 997.2 DI Porsche motors; seems like it's luck of the draw if it's going to eat oil for its lifetime or not.

If you're talking about the center console display, then no i don't think that you can check the level through there. I didn't see any options to pull up and nothing was....wait, wait for it..........in the Manual! LOL

Since I'm not eating as much oil, maybe that means I'm not pushing it hard enough! Ok, 12 burnouts tonight!!!

Is this the oil in the manual too or did you just pull it off the site?

LoL - Guess that name is appropriate given the season!

The manual says only SAE 0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets MB spec 229.5 for the AMGs.

The one I quoted meets that spec and i've also read it from others that this is what to use. I bought some that oil over the weekend and added it and I'm still running...so must be right!
