Help with chipped Black out front grille
I recently painted my front grill Black Matte, however, the paint is starting to chip off, due to small rocks from highway driving...... I first sanded the grill, then put 2 coats of Rustoleum & clear finish..... Any ideas? Did I miss something? I know it was very cold out when I completed the work, perhaps it didn't dry enough???
Is aftermarket the only safe choice? I saw Lorinser, however that's $699

Any ideas would be very much appreciated.....

Thanks

Paint just does not adhere well to the grill surface plus it faces straight forward and is most prone to rock contact.
So what options do I have now? Buy aftermarket? Will that be better? I remember on my M5 I bought an aftermarket front black grilled & never had any problems, and it was way cheap!
odd, i did a few coats of rustoleum myself, and a matte clear coat. But never had any chipping issues. Oh, and like you said sanded grille before painting.
i would just try spot painting the chips.
That's definitely the cheapest and easiest way. or you can get a new grill. they have them on ebay and on these forums for less than $800. :-)

I considered the black grille too, but decided that I just love the chrome too much. Also, this grille seems to catch a lot of road debris, and mine already has tiny dings all over it, which you can only see up close. So I'll probably save myself some extra headaches, lol.
