H&R + links vs Renntech lowering kit

I am interested in lowering my car about 3/4 to an inch but want to preserve as much of the stock ride quality as possible. I have clients riding in my constantly so a civilized ride is very important. I spoke with my local tuning shop and they recommend C63 front springs and the usual links. I came across the renntech kit and was curious to know if they used the same front springs or ones that are tuned specifically for my 2011 E63. Does anyone have experience with either method? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

reading the renntech website it appears to simply be an electronic mod not a physical one. I don't see an option for changing physical parts anywhere. nice 11 min video on the install

But I'll concede my ignorance beyond that. I also see that it says in MB equipped with air suspension.
So is that a certain option? do they not all have some form of air suspension?

On my E63 I run H and R E350 springs up front (the car is only slightly lighter than the E63) and the link adjustments in the rear. My car is dropped.

When I lowered my car there was no specific spring set up for the E63 and my tech didnt get a C63 spring suggestion either. I did the drop for form over function (which goes against my true intent) but the loss in handling and tire wear longevity was well worth the gain in looks with the HRE's on the car.

Now to the comfort part- the car is slightly more bouncy than stock as expected due to the reduction in shock travel and non perfect model springs but its negligible to me. But this is all subjective as I lower all my cars and understand there will be a loss in ride quality- plus I run on 20's which furthers the comfort deterioration. The car still is quite smooth and feels planted but I live in the OC and we have really good roads. The car probably handles similar to stock with a lower center of gravity.

I rarely carry more than 2 people in my car and when I do its for shorter distances but the ride is not bad. Freeway cruising is fine and I always run the stiffest shock set up too. I dont think you will suffer too much with a drop in regards to comfort even with the H and R's. I think they are all within a reasonable spectrum of each other in regards to compression and rebound and you have the ability to control your shock set up. I would find out what the C63 weighs to see how close it would be to E63. I never heard or was suggested a C63 spring by my tech who is quite knowledgeable.

I do know that here on the boards back in 2010- if any E63 was lowered it was done with the E350 H and R springs. Now if you want to do it right, spend the extra money and get the CLS KW set up which is also mated for the E63. I have that set up on my CLS and its way better in regards to handling and, believe it or not, comfort. The progressive coil sleeves really created a better environment of compliance over softer bumps and stiffness at higher speeds. My CLS does have the PP shocks though and this will make a difference.

Id probably look into the E350 springs as they have been great for me over the past 18 months of ownership (I lowered the car right away). But I think the Renntech springs will be overpriced and if you are going that way, get the KW coils instead. The C63 springs dont make sense to me as thats a completely different chassis. And the rear is fixed airmatic so you get what you get when you drop it.

Thanks Vic. Do you feel the kw kit has ride quality better than stock? Also is the kit for all four corners? Even the renntech kit does links in the rear. Also is there any adjustability to the kw kit? Also what was the approx price? Thanks again

Its hard to remember what stock was like but I think the KW is a better ride; softer when needed and stiffens up at speed. Its adjustable like all their coilovers via the twists of the perch mount.

The kit is for the front, none of our cars have springs in the rear. The kit comes with the link to lower the rear.

Retail is 995 I think- check Vivids site.

Can you get a lower drop in the front with the KW over the H&R Springs? I'm running the H&R E350 springs up front but I want to go a little lower.

Could you share with us your impression of the ride quality? Thanks

Yes you can drop it about another 1 1/2 inches if you wanted maybe a little more.
