Extended Warranty

Thought I would move the discussion here on the warranty.

So questions for you guys is can you buy the extended warranty from any MB dealership or do you have to buy it from the dealer where you purchased the car?

Also, does the warranty stipulate that you have to maintain the car strictly according to their maintenance schedule?

Thx

Interesting fact for MB new car warranty. Certainly sounds like a monopoly for the dealer that sells you the car.

I have read of examples on this forum, not sure which section, where people bought their MBZ extended warranty for a dealer that the car was not sold at. One example comes to mind about I think it was an S-class and the owner of the car I thought even said he bought the car used and then got the extended warranty from a dealer completely unassociated with the car.

I had asked the dealer I normally go to if they could do this and he told me that was a question for his manager and he'd get back to me. I never did hear back about it which is odd considering how many other "stupid" questions he has answered for me in the past.

My personally opinion on MBZ extended warranties is they end up making just going and getting a CPO car far more appealing.

I think the easiest is to call the financial managers of a few dealers to see if you can buy it from another dealer.

Yes, you can buy the MB Warranty from any MB dealer as long as your vehicle meets requirements. Your dealer may not want you to know that so you don't shop and buy elsewhere. If you or anyone wants a true no bs quote for a MB ELW, please feel free to contact me via email at meggleston@mbofgeorgetown.com with your current mileage and vin#.

Thanks!

Glad to see you guys monitoring this forum! I purchased the CPO extended warranty from your dealer a couple of months ago after calling around.

All over the map. I've read guys here get 7 years/75000 for as low as $3100. When i bought my car, my guy wanted something like $5gs for every extra year if i remember correctly...something insane like that. So its nice to hear that people are getting reasonably priced warranty protection.

Holy smokes, that is insane. I guess it comes down to shopping around unfortunately; you would think a dealership that just sold you a $100K car would want you to be a satisfied customer

Ya pretty insane. Although, he was shootin off the cuff so it very likley may have been 5Gs for the std 3 years in actuality...eitherway, he did himself a disservice by not knowing because as soon as he threw out that figure, i lost interest.

See a couple of posts up. There's a MB guy that gave out his contact details. Give him a try. Worth a shot if your dealer isn't pricing attractively.

I paid $3100 for 3 extra years and taking it to 75k miles.
I bought the pre-paid maintenance plan for $999

So what's up with the pre-paid maintenance plan? What's the perks about it that makes it attractive? I've received so many e-mails but am still not so sure what's the benefit of it since there is no details about them. Could someone please shed some light?

basically it does all of your Services for the first 3 years (30k miles). For example, i am dropping my car off today to get the Rear differential serviced (required at 2k and 30k)

Its just a way of saving money if you follow the service plan on the car and plan to use the dealer.

I see you got the pre-maintenance plan for $999 for 3 years. What's the regular price? Did you get to call around for the best price?

By the way, I thought the service for the LSD at 2K miles is free. I thought I read it on one of the threads a while back.

That was the regular price. Same as the 3100 was regular price for the extended warranty. I don't remember about the 2k service but you might be right. Regardless, at the time he showed me what my out of pocket would be for the services without the prepaid and it was more and frankly I was not paying much attention when I was spending $110k

That's about what I paid for a similar plan.

Has anyone actually completed a transaction with this guy?
He quoted a fantastic price and then vaporized.

I don't remember my guy's name but it's also at MB of Georgetown. Ask for the financial manager.

It's easier to just call them. It took me lots of phone calls and lots of left voice mails to finally reach somebody. I also called this other place in Northern Cal and it was also difficult to reach the financial people. Both Georgetown and this place in Northern Cal quoted the same.

Strangely the dealer I just had do my A1 service said I don't qualify for an extended warranty. That confuses me because the dealer in Atllanta I bought the car from said I can get one, but should wait till I'm close on my factory warranty. My car as 27K on the car and was originally purchased in May of 10. I am the second owner. All services were handled by the Atlanta dealer.

Have you guys ever heard of not qualifying for a MB extended warranty? I'll either trade it in before it expires or go with a third party like EasyCare.

Thoughts?
