2012 E 63 AMG vs M5
anyone driven both? As an owner of a E 63 with PP, I have a hard time agreeing with some of the auto mags about how the M5 is faster...., plus nothing sounds like the AMG motor.

Tons of supposition here---- the only ones that truly know are ones that have driven both. The car is not available stateside yet so I havent had a drive. I think its a driver's race no doubt. The mags have them very close (AMG with PP) and there are enough of them to say thats what would happen in the real world too. The quarter mile times and 0-60 runs are very close. The M5 has the smaller displacement but the much better tranny. Yes its alot better than the MCT planetary automatic. The DCT (I have had 3) clearly puts more power to the street and the shifts are faster. Its a more efficient tranny; case in point my GTR and my PDK 997TT. On my E92 M3 with 414 hp I could run very close with a 507hp E63 all day due to this tranny and its ability to transfer the power. The GTR is an amazing marvel and the tranny plays a huge role. It weighs 3900 plus lbs and really uses all of its power to offset this weight disadvantage.
Id say driver's race all day. Oh and I have a CLS63TT and an E63TT wagon both with tunes. My cars would beat an M5 stock no doubt. Stock vs. stock I think on any given day one car will pull better from speeds zero to triple digits. The M5 has a very good 0-200 km rating btw. I have had 4 M cars and 6 AMG's so my loyalties are to fast cars and not necessarily marquees. Ill get an M5 in September and let you know

I'll have to admit I'm no a huge BMW fan, I hated my M6 with the SMG, my E92 M3 engine blew up at 24000 miles ( BMW replaced the engine, it cost them 45,000$), I've lost faith.

I had an M6 and hated the SMGIII too.
I blew my E46 M3 engine
I loved my E92 M3 and my fave was the E39M5- what a car.

I'm waiting fro a drive too. The DCT may sell me on the M5 over the E63's MCT. Too many posts on the forum complaining about the responsiveness of the MCT. Only problems - I much prefer the exterior styling of the E63 and the interior on the M5 is too spartan.
