The AWD and DCT on the Pana S is really the big difference here..
but the M5 and E63 are very close in perfomance.
The E60 and W211 were 2 different cars..
The F10 and W212 are very similar in stock form.. it will now come down to brand loyalty, design preference, and over quality and reliability.. to sway buyers.
I'll take a used version of either in about 3 years..
The Best of Mercedes & AMG

Since Im a modder at heart I like the M157 engine and its potential over the F10- a simple tune brings the car to almost 127mph in traps and 11 seconds in the quarter. The 5.4 engine passes the 4.4 in this regard.
I guess Ill wait to see what the M5 does with its simple tune as I dont keep cars stock.

The Pilot Super Sport tires clearly gave the M5 that slight edge in acceleration and lap time, and we wont even mention DCT.
The E63 would likely win on the same tires, which also happen to be one size bigger front and back (265/295 M5 vs 255/285 E63).
With all the hype over the M5, it's not a good showing.
It would have been interesting to see the CTS-V in that test also.
The gear pulls don't mean anything as thats just a matter of who had the gearing advantage at that speed.
I just want to know what kind of dyno measures more WHP than Crank HP.

All bow to the Panamera Turbo S

06 M5 still at $30K to $40K
06 E55 $25k to $30k
2000 M5 still $12K
2000 E55 $10k or even less
You can compare from year 1999 to 2010 M5 keep better value and do not drop the price as E class AMG.

I like to use actuals when talking about resale versus asking prices... These are recent sales of both models (2006 M5 and 2006 E55) and some with similar miles. And since they are both via auction sales the pricing is relative. Of course we can all find one off's for both models that will elevate and drive down the data. These are all within the last month too.
The pricing is closer than one might think.

Its just hard to find buyers for used cars at prices above what they could pay for somewhat comparable brand new cars.
I guess you could say the Z8 holds its value better than an SL ; )

in 2009 the M5 was 3 years old and the E55 was long in the tooth.
