chris harris review

interesting, chris talks about how much power amg has tried to get out of this engine, and mentions its the crank case that explodes at too much power, (however much that is)
so the S, CL and SL versions of the PP have around 560hp/660lbft, nice

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
I'm sure AMG or Bimmer M has the expertise and capability to tune just like all those aftermarket tuners. In fact, they are in a better position especially when they are the ones who designed and built the engine and know the in's and out's of a specific engine. Certainly no tuners out there will have as much equipment, access to various expertise, and backing of a large company, ie Diamler. Most of the time, outside tuners have little other than a dynamometer to gauge the result. Of course, AMG was originally formed by two engineers from MB, but I'm sure they are now doing even better especially after they merge with MB and now has the backing of the entire MB.
In fact, engine builders have so much info on a given engine that some of the info get used in lawsuits like the one on M156 which alleged that MB knew about the specific less-ideal metallurgy of a certain part, which led to premature wear. Obviously, no tuners out there is going to know and care about specifics of an engine to that extent.
Of course, I still don't get how S63 and SL63 > E63 > C63 in hp and tq. Likely it's just for marketing purpose as mentioned; or intentionally detuned for marketing purpose. Ideally, the P30 specs should just be standard on cars like these. But of course, it's used to add additional profit on those vehicles.
I guess all it comes down to is, one just needs to have the "pay to play" mentality when it comes to aftermarket tuning as Vic had mentioned. Afterall, when the engine goes kaboom with overtuning, or as the transmission goes kaput with too much tq from the engine, you are on your own.

Those damn Porsche cars can really endure mods- at least in my case and I drove/drive them hard.
But with Benzes I havent been so lucky thus my "pay to play" comment.
My 2004 E55 was modded but left me on the side of the road 3 times in its 3 year existence. Each time it was because of the aftermarket pulley shredding the belt and while I was pissed I had the mentality that I put this on my self. Dont get me wrong, I still love this car but Ive never loved a car more than my Pcars...

Woudn't we all say, "Hey when the boss goes home, let's try to get 1000hp out of this thing!!"
Thanks for the link!
The current 997.2 TT does not use the Mezger engine.
Even mighty Brabus in their EV12 W212 limits the torque to 811 lb-ft, on the grounds that the 7-speed gearbox cannot handle that much power. It is all fun with those big numbers but what sense does it make if all that torque cannot be safely used by the gearbox. Now, if you send your g-box to these guys... http://www.weistec.com/7229built.html
