11-99 CHP Plates- Whats does your donation get you

debating on actually donating.

I heard that you get the license plate frame, ID and wallet. I guess all of the items is most important if you get pulled over. I know the membership does not gurantee anything but want to see what you get

Thanks

Yes, you get a License plate frame, wallet, and 11-99 membership ID.
There are 4 levels of Membership which range from $2,500 to upwards of $25,000.
Its a one time life time membership donation.

CLASSIC Level: $2,500 (add spouse for $1,000)
BRONZE Level: $5,000 (add spouse for $2,500)
SILVER Level: $10,000 (spouse included in price)
GOLD Level: $25,000 (spouse included in price)

can anyone share stories or thoughts on if this helps LEO take a nicer attitude toward you? Thanks, I'm also considering this donation.

This has been an issue of long debate. I forget the Foundation director's name, but basically he thought too many owners were taking liberties and expecting get out of jail free cards. The pricing rationale was that if you really support the organization, then the ticket leniency is a non-issue.

I've used it with varying success. The key thing is - don't be obvious (e.g. don't mention it). At the time that they bumped up the prices (it was 1k, then 1200, then 1500, then 2k, then they finally introduced the "classes") - CHP made it known that no one would be getting a break "just because they're a member."

It's always situationally dependent and you can't exactly isolate whether it helps or doesn't. If you're 100mph in crowded traffic, you're getting a ticket gold or not. I do have to believe that a gold membership really does make some difference, but I wouldn't expect any treatment from the classic/base. It's pretty simple - if you drive like a fucxtwat, you'll get pulled over or arrested like a fucxtwat. If you're absentmindedly slipping above or something, chances are you'll be fine. Realistically, your demeanor with the LEO is going to be way more of a factor on whether or not you get a ticket than any membership unless you're ex-CHP. Of course, it can't hurt, but don't expect anything.

Easiest thing to do, frankly, is just get a ticket then get out of it later. My guess is if you're speeding, you're doing it on more than freeways, in which case 11-99 won't help.

I've been a member for nearly 15 years. In my experience, it's gotten me out of a CHP speeding ticket about 70% of the time. However, it all depends upon the cop. Some CHP respect it, others couldn't care less.

For those times that I was issued a ticket, the cop reduced the speed by 15% - 20%, in effect, giving me a break. But whether or not it was because of the 11-99 Foundation, it will never be known.

Bottom line, it will never hurt you and can only benefit you. Plus, it's for a good cause and you get a break on your 1040.

No downside whatsoever ...

I know of a silver member that has been pulled over, was very honest and cooperative with the cop and admitted that he had a couple drinks. Cop ran his plates and told him to have some pick him up or sleep it off on the side of the road. This was about 5 years ago. TC

thanks for all the responses, I like the point that in a sense there's no downside (besides the money spent) given that it's a good cause. It's hard not to think that the 2500 could go towards something else on the car, but I will probably do this
