If you did, did you go back to OEM or did you use low dust like porterfield and if there is a reco on different/better rotors, I'm all ears.

Just a poll to the group...wondering what people's experience of the brake life have been so far. (I know it varies on your driving style, just curious)

E63 AMG
I purchased a 2011 E63 AMG with 4500 miles on it. The brakes squealed bad especially when dirty. I complained a few times and they finally checked with MB and found out there is a recall or "service bulletin" on them. Had them replaced with OEM ones. I still noticed a slight squeal but definitely better than before. I wonder if low dust brakes would help since they don't make any noise after washing but will when the dust builds up.

Changed front pads recently with Centric's ceramic low dust pads. Jsut as good if not better than oem pads in regards to stopping power/distance. The added bonus of hardly any brake dust after 4 weeks of driving.......priceless! The rear wheels still have oem pads. The difference in brake dust emitted is night and day.

I still have oem rotors. I don't track the car so rotors cracking aren't a big concern of mine. Girodisc has some nice rotors.

Do you happen to know the price difference between the Centric and oem pads?

Car has 14k miles on odometer, and pads are 30% remaining both front/back.
All the expendable parts are covered under warranty for 3 years out here in Korea, so I'll just have the dealer replace them with OEM pads. They hardly squeal and have no complaints for their performance so far.

wheel dust

I wash and wax my OEM MB wheels. This helps diminish dust and road junk making it easier to rinse off. Plus it helps the clear coat finish stand up against the elements. Use the same wax you use on your car.

Has anyone found an especially good wheel wax?

People do not realize how good the stock AMG pads are. They are pretty much the highest performance you will get in a daily driveable quiet pad. It will be very hard to find a pad to match it on all levels. To beat the performance you need a track category pad, which would dust more and most likely squeel on light braking.

I've used OEM AMG brake pads the last 2 years. I switched to Centric who manufactures Stoptech brake kits. I've seen no significant difference between the 2 pads on the street, which is where I do most of my driving.

Thanks for all the replies....very helpful.

Here is a pic of the current state of my brake pads.....any thoughts here from you guys on how much life is left on this set of pads? I'm guess its down to 40% but not sure. Any guesses?

Thanks!

Those pads look fine.
You can keep them untill the pad part (excluding backing plate) is 1/2 what it is now.
My guess is another 6-10K mi on those, depending on your driving conditions.

Another thing to keep in mind is that it's best to remove the wheel to view them from the top.
Then you can see if the inner pads are worn the same as the outer pads.

They should not wear that quick, under normal conditions.
I think most people get 20K plus from a set, with normal driving.
Where, 1 track day can easily put 50% of wear on a set of pads.

5% is really low.
It would be interesting to see a pic of your pads.
You should never let them get below 15-20%.
Some people would change them at 30-50%.
It's good to get fresh pads on, before your rotors start to groove.

Thanks, Lunarx. Thats about what I was thinking too. Just FYI to others, thats with about 19K miles on the clock (14K in NYC, 5K in suburbia)...so i'll likely get 25-30K on my set of pads.

Looks like you have been enjoying those twin turbos.
Your pads do need to be changed as they will start running hot now (and wear even faster), with so little material remaining.

Here is what I see for your pads:

How do your rear pads look?
Rear pads are only $132, you might consider changing them too.

I think you are supposed to change sensors also:
