E63 vs CLS63 with turbo upgrade
Has anyone seen this? Is it just me or does Renntech suck, couldn't get a 10sec quarter mile with a turbo upgrade, I know the launch could be better but common
Looks like the E63 got quicker times

E63 biturbo
That was a pretty darn good trap speed and ET for a tune only E63! I would assume that there's absolutely no way you can launch a CLS63 with turbo upgrade properly on street tires, and it could have lost around 1 sec due to that start.

I wouldn't say Renntech sucks (They're the company I'd tune an M157 with), but clearly that CLS has got to be a ***** to launch. Plus isn't the E63 naturally a bit fast than the CLS63? I want to say that CLS belongs to a forum member, as it looks a bit familiar.

Yes the the only way to launch my CLS properly is to just stomp on the gas and hopes it hooks up and does not break the axles. E 63 spun his tires the time before. I did a 10.95

i keep watching the video and studying the trap speed and it amazes me that the tune only E63 is trapping around the same as your upgraded turbo CLS

Renntech tune is great! but I disagree, ive seen a SLS dyno before and after and with Renntechs Headers installed it made less power, seen that shiiit with my own eyes, quality of the item is unmatched, but if it don't make power its useless to me.

The CLS is spinning the tire and hooking up further down the track and running a higher MPH = making more grunt than the E63
CLS needs a tire to help put it down
CLS needs a tire to help put it down

so the bottom line is, is it worth having more power than u can put down and use in this scenario...
yeah it looks great on the dyno, but in the real world, when u live your life a quartermile at a time, if u cant hook up.....you lose the race, you lose the ride.....

1. If you look at the CLS W218 threads my time slips are posted.
2. I really could care less about sticky drag strip times. I do not drive on the drag strip.
3. I took it on the track, it was way more fun.
4. Traction control still needed at 50 mph or rear end gets loose.
5. 70 to 140 mph is scary quick.

Trap speeds tell the power story. Not ET. I would have expected the upgraded turbo/downpiped car to trap higher then the tune only car despite the lopsided 60ft times. Karl, what was your trap and 60ft time on 10.95?? Congrats on the beast of a car.

Except the way the new TC works muddles things. On the MCT it works by slipping the clutch. So you're still rolling with your foot on the gas but you're not accelerating. If it's constantly flashing, and even a tune only car on street tires it will on the 1-2 and 2-3 shift, it's going to kill your trap speed.

The power your cars are making takes an adjustment in driving style and tire selection.....which is a good problem to have

IMO, in 1/4 mile drag race, launching determines at least 50% of the winning factor. Like some said on this thread, power story tells on the trap speed, or to be more precise, higher speed territory.
1/4mile drag race was quite popular out there in Korea couple years ago, but these days guys with high-powered cars do the rolling race from 40mph, and the length goes about 2 miles or so. E63's and CLS63's can easily achieve 200mph with ECU tune, (on the speedometer) and the question is who gets there faster. I'm not a fan or have any intention to condon street racing anyway.
BTW, the king of high speed race was not GTR, SLS AMG, Porsche 997 Turbo S, or even Ferrari 458 or Lambo. It was Brabus SV12R, which is fully modified S65AMG complete car from Brabus. I guess the car had about 750hp, and it took 0-300km/h in about 23 seconds if I remember correctly, and recorded top speed of 225mph (360km/h) in GPS.

Is Karl the only one that has encountered failures of OEM parts when modding an M157 platform?
Karl can correct me but I thought he was not a drag fanatic so he is using his car like a DD and did not have many drag strip runs.
That is a bit concerning as I thought the car could handle the extra power.
