2014 E63 S-line versus F10 M5 0-250 kph video

Stolen from M5post...as they said...not to get too excited, it only shows the instrument gauges, but it does look like the m5 gets to 250 km/h faster than the new e63 S-AMG.

I attribute most of that to the M5's dual clutch transmission.
Just shifts faster than E63's auto trans.

I have a feeling once the car mags test will be a different story.

The July 2012 issue of C&D tested pitted E63 against M5 and S6.
A non P30 equipped E63 was a tenth of a second behind the M5 in 0-60, 0-100 and 0-130.

Problem with these tests is vary by car day temp...

It probably has more to do with the M5 being very underrated from the factory. They make in excess of 525 at the wheels stock which means they're really around 610hp not 560. The awd amgs got a small power bump, but they also got fatter. I would expect them to fair even worse at high speed vs the rwd version with the extra weight and greater drive train loss from the awd system.

BMW Speedometers have higher than average speed reading errors. Intentionally. Might help to keep that in mind too.

This doesnt do much for me- I need to see the cars. Did this occur at the same time? Can we confirm?

I totally agree, I just posted it because I found it. It is not surprising how things appear...Benz gets to 100 as the M5 hits 70, but the M5 hits 250 first as power train loss from AWD and the speedier shifts of the DSG start to show.

So Vic, between your CLS63 and your M5...what would pick if you could only have one?

having owned a number of M cars I can definitely confirm that that speedo is waaay off at higher speeds, don't know if that's the case here.

LOL---- this is funny... but I would take the M5. The CLS tuned is the faster car and my M5 is not tuned yet. But even with the speed difference the driveability is much better, for me, with the M5. I like the interior better as well and the DCT tranny is amazing. It really does allow cars with less bhp to match up well due to its efficiencies. I dont drive my cars in straight lines or go bananas over dig launches so the M is more suited to my style.

I cant wait for an M5 tune- one that is tried and tested.

i to would choose the M5, i actually had a deposit on one and couldn't wait anymore so i ended up with the E63 and im very happy with it, especially happy when i put the Gap Cam on! (<thats the gopro camera facing the rear of the car when racing M5's LOL) with a tune should be close but i still think the E63 will come out ahead. either way there both great cars! Vic please go get a tune and post a video of it racing and E63

I still can't get over the engine noise in the M5 being piped through the audio system.

Totally agree, DCT has a leg up on the Merc MCT (I think this is a Merc achilles heels). Once they (Merc) start using a true DCT in their E, C, S, Cl etc..(like the one in SLS) I think Merc AMG would have a leg up on most of the competition (I mean overall package).

And I like to hear my exhaust note from my exhaust not from speakers

Its ironic that I thought that way too about the speakers but during my initial test drive and then ultimate purchase I have yet to notice such sound. Although I have since modded my car's exhaust I honestly never noticed it prior.

Heck if they actually turned up the Active Sound I wouldnt have spent 4k on exhaust LOL.

I think the tunes are still in beta testing (not optimal) so Im kind of waiting. My local tuner does have the new definitions so its about a week away. Ill get the car tuned no doubt because I think it needs a little more juice in the sweet spot range of rpms. It sure does kick butt up top and I have no doubt its faster than the stock E63PP cars.

There was an airstrip run this last weekend in Cali with a lot of tangible results I hear. Let me see if I can dig up some posts.

Why did the E63 shift so early into 2nd (5500 rpm)? There were a few rpms still left on the table. The M5 stayed in it also while the M5 was at the top of 4th the E63 was already in 5th.

Hey Vic I'll tell you what, when you get your M5 tuned we will run your CLS (with me driving) against your M5 60-130. What do you think?

oh I forgot the :-) after the me driving part lol
