Stealthy Start?
I just took home a 2012 E36 last week. The car is just fantastic and I'm finding every reason I can to go driving.
One of my favorite aspects of the car is the start. The sounds are incredible - and loud. This is a great trait about 90% of the time. However, it does make a stealthy start or an early morning start (with neighbors sleeping) difficult.
It would be great if there was a mode that called for a milder start. More like the restart when the car is in ECO mode.
Any ideas on this aside from starting the car in the garage with the door down?

Again 90%+ of the time, the normal start is just what is needed. But there are several reasons for wanting stealth:
1) Primary - Neighbors house is not far from the garage. I tend to leave before they wake up. Trying to keep it civil.
2) There are other times where you don't want everyone's head to spin around when you start. Client meetings are one. I had one of my clients ask me a few days ago why I put so much foot in it when I started. Wasn't a big deal, but would have been nice to keep it quiet. School pickups, etc. Basically old man kind of stuff, but it is needed from time to time.
Believe me, this car is amazing. Even with only a week under my belt, this is the best all around car I've had.
Seems odd to me that the stealth request is so out of place. The car itself if fairly stealthy/a sleeper to the general public. Seems like you'd go for something crazier if you always wanted to be seen/heard. Anyway, I don't think it's possible to do the old quiet/getaway start. Was hoping someone might have a code for that.

Ok 0ne solution, start in the garage, and when your with customers just park as far way from them as you can.
I start my car in the garage all the time when I put my dogs in the back seat with door down so I do not have to put leashes on them.
My CLS has upgrade turbos, down pipe and 200 cell cat, resonators deleted.
It is loud.
PS my neighbors all love my car, sound in all. One has SLS, another C63.

i drive them all, fast and hard
if u were revving your car in the morning like a fool, them im sure neighbors would be pissed but if your just cold starting it, im sure they would be ok
my car is mild compared to my neighbors, one guy has a cayenne gts, panamera gts and 911 gts, another has a z06, and a v10 r8 on the front driveway

LoL funny post. Congrats on the new ride! Sorry, there is no chance to lower volume of cold start on these cars. Guess this must be your first AMG. They are all loud and shouty cold starts.

I just traded my S550 2007 for a Audi S 8 2013. My neighbor hood is full of
MB Ss. In palm beach county they must be giving away those Bentley GTs.
Thank god I bought a CLS 63 , never hardly see one.

On the topic of sound, we have a short tunnel at a freeway exit fairly close by. Opening it up in there is crazy! Used to do that in my F355. Sounded like the start of an F1 race.

Agree about tunnels! I'm a tunnel seeker! I sometimes go out of my way to open it up all windows down in tunnels!

You all live in nice hoods. Here, I think I have one of the only two AMG in the entire county. The other one is also a W212 6.2 E63, but black with 19" wheels.
