6.2l vs. 5.5 biturbo
Hi guys!
so I was looking for new amg for past few days I came across few of them.. most of them were with the 6.2l 2010 year 20-30k miles on it... and price range 55k to 60k
and there were few of them with 5.5 biturbo, price range 70-80k so its not a big diff.
what I wanted to know any of you guys drove both of them for longer time ? ive drivien both and its not so much diff.
so what do you guys think of that ? wich is better ? in your opinion wich one is faster for you guys?
thank you again for all your respones in previos topics I hope I get same results here.
thanks again.

I admire all AMG products. 6.2L is very quick. It's deceitful because the power band is so linear (NA) But, the 5.5L Im sure is an animal. Like the E55 on roids.

Just curious how all you TTs out there keep all that torque under control? It's a handful to keep my NA from shredding my tires from a dig, can't imagine what's like with 100lbs more torque....maybe I just suck.

I think there is no doubt that in the real world, and on the street the 5.5 (especially with a tune) is faster than the 6.2. But, for me, the 6.2 is really really special. I love the sound, the respons and the more revvy response. The times I get a chance to properly unwind it on a good piece of road is pure magic. It has a pedigree which somehow defines the "AMG comeback".
I think it's the same with the new 997 GT3 with the new 3.8. It's more powerful, surely faster and more efficient in every way. But the old 3.8 has a history in motorsport and a wonderful character.
Try them both and pick the one you like best. They are both awesome machines!

'22 Alpina B7,'21 G63 Renntech obviously (wife), Wrangler(kids)
I had '09 SL63 and it was OK.
'13 CLS63 now,not a huge difference when it was stock (with PP),turned into a breathtaking monster with just the R1 pkge from Renntech.
It's a different World.......

I have owned two 5.5TT engines and 2 6.3's (based on badging)... if all want is speed and an easy modable engine then the 5.5 is the way to go but......
The 6.3 is that last of the great n/a engines that Benz is making and look at its pedigree:
C63 Black Series (I have)
CLK Black Series
SLS
AMG's (S, E, SL, C, etc)
What else?
the throttle response from the engine is amazing and once you take out the resonator its incredible (the 5.5 sounds good too with the resonator out but not as good). My C63 Black is/was slower than my 5.5's but it is by far the better car to drive from linear standpoint (thanks Max), throttle response, heat soak resistance, sound, and a few others. Did I mention the sound?
Speed is not everything--- and in this case the 6.3 makes a great point. This is my opinion having owned and owning 2 of each...

I'm just a little disappointed. The throttle response Rlly sucks. I'm hoping a tune will change everything I've said In this post....

Yes, it will be the last chance to enjoy one of the greatest N/A AMG has made, and I'm doing just that. I'm not in a hurry to jump on the TT bandwagon since I figure I'll be forced onto one where I like it or not after the M156.

On balance, I preferred my 2010 E63 to my 2012. As others say above, speed isn't everything. There is something special about the 6.2 n/a engine that was lost in the TT.
It is a matter of preference. Both are awesome.

Dr. ss: I know the potency of a ML63 all to well. I had one punk slap about 2 years ago coming off an highway exit ramp back when I had a pulley only e55. It completely caught me by surprise. Once I realized it was no ordinary ML it was too late! That 4 wheel beast left me spinning out of the apex of a turn while that thing straight hooked and left me for dead lol.

I used to think the 6.2L had no torque and only had power above 4000rpm (which in an ML63 is the worst possible powerband with all this weight.)
After doing the Eurocharged V3 tune. I picked up an astonishing 35TQ/HP AT THE WHEELS, in the mid range and the torque ramps up big time at 2500rpm instead of 4000rpm? Keep In mind the ML63 has an abnormally high drivetrain loss, so that's closer to 50TQ at the crank over the clk63 black series tune (aka ML63 tune). In addition, the way Jerry wrote the tune, it actually feels like a turbo spooling at 2500rpm. That plus resontator bypass and air filters/charcoal delete was over 40HP/TQ In the mid range. Now it feels like the newer ML63 without any of the flaws the newer ML63 has.
If you want a fair comparison, it should be the old 6.2 tune with the Eurocharged V3 tune vs a stock 5.5L biturbo AMG.

Yup
Though I am looking forward to jumping on the 4matic bandwagon and hope that sticks around and in more models.

I agree w this, though I haven't had those customary platforms, my m156 was in a ML63, from that I got into the e63 biturbo. The m156 had a resonator delete and a custom dyno tuned by AMS. Put down 434 AWHP in that huge tank. But man, there was something about that throttle response, the sound, the linear pull all the way to redline, the gradual surge and build of torque with the sweet spot of 4500rpm, man I really miss that. My e63 frankly feels slow. I had high expectations but it just feels FLAT. Even my wife says it "feels slow" even though ur going fast. She's convinced the ML was faster lol. Even though it wasn't it was awesome that engine was magic....
