E63 S vs E63 S 4MATIC
I know the 4Matic will be quicker off the line but how will it fair on top end.
4 WD drive cars generally fall short on top.
Anybody come across some tests to show otherwise?
Keen to see 1 mile times/speeds on these 2 models.
Me too, if I ever get the damn car. Ordering new model cars through Merc can be an aggravating experience.

I see the AWD taking an early lead with the launch and then the non S slowing pulling back at triple digit speeds. A rolling race would probably benefit the non S.
You probably meant the non AWD euro S right? The S even with AWD has 35 more HP than non S model. That will more than negate the weight savings of the non AWD car.

Thus your extra power is gone just from the drivetrain as it has less efficiency to harness the power from the flywheel to the wheels. Add the extra weight on top of this and the Non AWD S will be the faster car after the 60mph mark. Especially if you tune it, it will be a monster at pulling away in the top end.
I was only giving an example about tuning to explain what the full potential of the RWD platform could be in the top end as it is detuned in stock trim.
The E63 S is tuned by AMG to have more power over RWD non s from factory to give it a torque and hp advantage to negate the extra weight and drivetrain loss.
That said if you tune the non s it will be definitely be faster than the S once it has traction and it will pull harder and faster.
It’s really a simple fact that one can’t defy physics, the RWD car will always be faster than the AWD given its lighter and has less drivetrain loss so it has to be quicker if it has equal power to the S model and it might still be as quick or quicker top end with the less power they give it from factory but I doubt it.
The way AMG have setup the RWD now with less power is to ensure it will be slower than the S model for the simple reason AMG don’t want their flagship model to be slower than the cheaper and entry level E63.
E63 RWD 410 kW (557 hp), with 720 Nm of torque
E63 AWD 430 kW (585 hp) and 800 Nm of torque
If you are only interested in their stock performance it will be fairly even top end but I can’t say which one will be faster the S has a significant hp and torque advantage. In any case Europe is the only country with the option to have both RWD and AWD as far as I know, so it doesn't really matter for us anyway as we can’t get both options, still I agree it will be interesting to know which is faster instock form once both cars have traction.
