I'm curious as to whether anyone with a 2014 E63 has any problems with the transmission not shifting? Had multiple episodes of the transmission not shifting out of park into reverse, as well as not engaging drive from reverse. Had to shut the car off and start it again to make it respond. Thanks.

I find that every now and then the Merc electronic trannys will get a tiny bit wonky on a cold startup if you try to engage the gearbox immediately after the engine barks to life. This goes for any platform I've owned. Give it a second.

Silly comment but make sure the brake pedal is depressed when you go to shift.
Also, I noticed that when you open the drivers door it automatically puts you in park? Kind of frustrating... when the camera is covered in dirt I like to open the door to peek out and double check where my rear tires are before I put it in park.. I can still do this it just adds another step.

Not a silly comment. I second-guessed myself on this and really put my weight on to the brake pedal to ensure that it was engaged.

One interesting comment came from a friend of mine with a German car repair shop. His first question to me was whether I had been in a car wash earlier, which I had been. I had used $2 to spray off the snow/salt grime but had concentrated on the side door panels, rocker panels, wheel wells, and rear side. He suggested that there are so many sensors on these cars that it is possible that some water froze in the door jams and as it expands with freezing, one of the sensors may think that one of the doors is open, despite being closed. Never experienced this coming from BMW, but he told me that he often has cars towed to his shop straight from a car wash.
Going to try to reproduce the problem when temperature dips again in the future and see if that theory holds water...lol...had to get that in there.

read your post last night, had same issue today!
Cant believe this. I read your post last night and thought about sharing that i had not experienced the issue. I have not been happy with my 2014 e63s tranny, so was taking a look at several threads. This afternoon I started the car and it would not go into drive or reverse or neutral. I shut the car down and restarted twice and then it worked ok. On the same trip went to back into a parking spot and it would not shift out of drive. So in drive i shut it off, restarted and was able to get it into reverse and then drive. In my garage now. 2thdr did you get this resolved, if so what was the issue???

Trying not to explode right now, but I am stuck at work with my $100k car outside with 2400 miles on it and it won't shift from P into D or R. I have shut the car down multiple times with no change. MB roadside is on the way as is a car from my dealer (which was really nice of the them).
Seriously, I have NEVER had a car leave me stranded especially one this expensive and new. Not really happy with my decision to leave BMW for Mercedes at this moment...
Hopefully this can get resolved quick, but I am concerned over how many of these issues people have had just in this thread.
A very unhappy X

After turning on and off the car 5-6 times while letting it sleep in between, the car did go into reverse which got me excited until I back out of the parking post I was in and couldn't shift into drive or even park.
I just backed into the spot right behind me and then opened the door (thing went right into park then...) stuck back in park now. Still waiting on road side assistance...

Man, what's going on with your car?! Well, it sounds like you might be able to get it into drive using the same procedure that got you into reverse. But you will still need to reverse eventually. I hope the roadside service and the guy from your dealership will be there soon. I'm really interested in what's going on.

Now to see what the techs find tomorrow...

This happend to me twice in my '10 so it's not relegated to just the newer cars. The car would not engage Park. I had to shut he car off in Drive so it wouldn't hit my garage wall. Dealer changed something in the gear shift (chip maybe) and the problem has not re-occurred thankfully.

shift module replaced here as well. Mine has been in for warranty service almost 2 weeks for a brake issue and bucking when cold - parts coming from germany and replacing front brakes after 5k miles to fix the brake issue. Disappointed but i know i am in love - i miss it.
Glad I went in for the extended warranty!

Sort of glad to hear I am not the only one, but also a bit concerned that this has happened to several others. Has it worked ok after the module was replaced?
Tell me about this bucking when cold issue. I think I may have had it a single time when I tried to start going pretty quickly after starting the car. I think I stopped, put it into park, then back into drive and didn't accelerate quiet as vigorously.
They are still trying to figure out my seat squeak issue.
Glad I went with the 7/100k Extended warranty as well.
Best of luck.

i like the concept of this rocket wagon, but i told myself in 1994 NEVER to buy another mercedes and I broke my rule. the quality control is very bad compared to porsche and ferrari.
