Unsafe - 2014 AMG E63 S - about to send lemon law letter to MBUSA

Appreciate any insight/advice please! - Hey I love this car, BUT I have had a significant safety issue, really since purchased. On cold/cool mornings when I start it and put in Drive many times (not every time) it bucks wildly, i mean wildly like neck snapping wild. So bad I need to take my foot off the accelerator. Usually occurs for a few seconds then all is fine. Been in the shop 4 times and 15 days and counting for this (has been in for other issues as well). I assumed my dealer would resolve and was assured each time it was all set. Last time it was in repair for 10 biz days. When i got it home and in the garage, I gave the thing a hug (how crazy is that). Any way still the same issue. I contacted MBUSA today to be sure I have the right address to send my "demand for relief" and to let them know it was coming. Sounds like nothing was fed up the chain from the dealer, so it was news to them. Anyone ever have to go thru this? I don't want money back - just want the car I should have gotten when I bought it late in 2013. Very sad and unbelievable it has come to this point. __________________

Damn ! it sucks !

I'm guessing it happens when the car is warm and not when you are driving it whilst still cold?

It's no comparison but for what it's worth -some of us E55 owners face this transmission jerk issue when the car isn't in operating temp. After one or

two shifts it goes away.

Again, it can't be compared cuz apples vs oranges but I'm wondering if it only happens when the car isn't in operating temps ?

Only when cold and only for a few short frightening seconds. Seems like worse in colder weather. Weird I'm not sure I have moved enough to even shift yet. Thanks though

Others have complained of similar issues. Some searching here could lead you to some members that have had the same problem and have seen it resolved. I believe it's a programming thing in the transmission.

I few folks asked that i keep them updated. All I know is the dealer and MBUSA are still working on it. The most recent repair attempt (#4) is now 9 days (6 biz days) and running. Dealer service folks have reached out to me to let me know a number of folks are working on it. Met with my salesman and the GSM at the dealer today, they had no idea I had an issue like this and that it was going on for so many months. They did seem sincere in trying to help resolve this issue and understood I had lost faith in the car. Again thanks for all the input from a number of folks as a result of my post. One of the great benefits to be part of these forums is sharing learnings and experiences. I hope I have the opportunity to contribute back in the future

don't they all do this?
these are not the smoothest transmissions. any change from reverse to drive to park is slow and not always smooth. i just assumed it's the side effect of creating a transmission that can shift smoothly very quickly while being able to handle guys drag racing their sedan cars.

let us know.

Mike, If they all had this issue you would have seen it become a massive Mercedes safety issue and PR nightmare. I believe it is, at this point, isolated to my car. Thanks for the input, this is a violent repeated bucking. A neck snapping bucking. Not a rough shift as i dont think it even shifts out of 1st or 2nd if in ECO mode. Friday this was a torque converter/wet clutch issue, today I was told this was a manifold and intake issue. Service director said he was "100% confident", then he mentioned they had not even replaced the manifold/intake yet as they had to order parts. What a sad and completely disheartening process. Mercedes-Benz – The best or nothing. Wow what happened

2014 AMG E63 S Safety Issue

My dealer was helpful in reaching a reasonable resolution today. I was told the final repair resolution was a wet clutch replacement and repair of intake manifold leak. With that said post "repair" when my radar detector installer picked up and dropped of the car to pull the passport system - he said the car shut off twice unexpectedly while on the road twice - Good bye to the troubled E63S, hello new beast!

Thanks to all of you for your insight and support!

83 -- lol! Glad you dumped that car, told you that was the right move!!

They will ultimately fix that car and it'll go to auction and end up on a no-name lot somewhere in the country and someone will have to take a big chance to buy that car -- hope they do their homework and investigate -- either way -- NOT YOUR PROBLEM!

Congrats -- just picked up a white/black E63S myself... looking forward to chatting with you about it once I take delivery

I saw a white/black 14 E63S last week - beautiful, congrats and enjoy

I was thrilled to see a different motor builders name on my new one - Sascha B needs be retrained or better yet retired!

I completely agree -- something went terribly wrong on your car, and you can only blame the manufacturing process.

Wishing your new one is solid and trouble free as it appears most peoples' 14 E63s's are.... (me included!!)

You don't call out a professional engine builder (by name  ) for an, as yet undiagnosed problem which could be caused by dozens of components and assemblies completely unrelated to the tasks for which they are responsible.

Especially when doing so from an anonymous internet forum account.

These men and women care a lot about their profession. They wouldn't work in Affalterbach is they weren't the best. They put their names on their work. Where else do you see that?

So lame it hurts.

I was thinking about your family 83 when I was test driving the '63S ... my 3 and 2 year old are going to be routinely put in back seat with car seats and safety is key. We put a lot of trust in these hunks of metal, and when the most precious cargo are the babies, we have a right to the best or nothing.

Congrats again.

I found my palladium E550 on a colorado benz lot .. but carfax clearly states 1 accident and 6 transmission fixes with tons of details -- it's listed at $65,000 but they paid $55,000 to Mbusa for the trade assist -- that's $10k markup! lots of room to negotiate, I paid $68,500 pre tax for it brand new.

83zzz just shoot out the last 4 digits of the VIN, that, and it was an iridium silver .. that should be good enough. Not to mention the carfax will clearly tell you the service records of what it was in for with the dealership website link so you can call that dealership and discuss what they were working on -- I.e. wet clutch issues and intake manifold leak .. i.e. neck snapping problems!!

Mine does the same when cold

I have the same issue of the bucking when the car is cold. After 3-4 starts from a stop it goes away. I might have them take a look at it the next time it is in for an oil change.

The E class has its issues. I am not thrilled with the build quality. The C we have is like carved out of a rock. Much more solid, but too tight inside for me. The wife loves it.

Did you get this resolved? I have the same issue now and then (maybe 1 of 15 or 20 cold starts). MB Service always says they can't replicate the problem.
