Based on this and other threads I decided to this last week to my '14 AMGs sedan.
I absolutely love it! It's makes the car so addictive to drive. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread its minimally different at idle and regular driving when driving at low RPM's.
When you get on it has a VERY satisfying sounds that weren't there before. It's more of what you currently have plus some. On full throttle I would say anywhere from 20% to 30% louder and more aggressive. But the louder part is the sound we all love and crave. The mechanical put-puting and rabid barks after gear changes. People around will make no mistake in knowing they have an unholy beast of machine next to them.
I personally think it's an amazing mod and I paid $180 for it. I took it to a regular muffler shop.
The guy told me he put 2 3/4" straight pipes in. I know some people were doing 3", and he said it wouldn't make any difference.

Anyway, great mod for anyone who wants a little more sound.

The OEM resonator is welded onto the rear section of the exhaust, so you have to cut it off. So it will be a bit larger job to re-install it for service visits.

I am assuming most will just leave it off for service visits and unless there is an issues that this part could relate to it should not be an issue.
For those that have removed the resonators, any increase in cabin drone at low rpm?
Had this same mod done on another vehicle and although the sound was fantastic the loud drone wore me out over time.

Is there anything inside the stock resonator or is simply a bulge in the pipe.

Nick, not planning on reversing unless it gets too loud for me. Unless you knew something was missing and looked right at the exhaust in the right place, you would never know something was missing. I doubt anyone would pickup on it during service 1 or 2.

See the middle 1st page of this link for what it looks like inside.

What is that circular metal disk right in the middle of the resonator? It's not easy trying to make out the structure. I wonder how it works.

When you look in, the central 3rd of each pipe has multiple small holes, sort of big perforations. I bet the sound goes out into the resonator through those holes. That is all there is to the resonator.

Someone should get this X pipe manufactured with bolt-on collars and we can do a group buy. I'm in !

Read a lengthy thread on the c63 forum on this exact group buy concept of a bolt on power pipe that has been going on for some time.
A lot of happy people.
Think it was being made in Florida.

why do you guys worry about service visit? Does removing resonator void warranty or something? I will be financing the car, not leasing, I guess it should not be a problem for me, am I correct? Thanks

Now you guys have me tempted again especially that some of you have confirmed that there is no drone in the cabin at low rpm's under load.
May pop by my exhaust guy tomorrow.
Just debating if I should take the easy route and get him to put in straight pipes in place of the resonator or have him fabricate an X-pipe.

So here is the real question. Does the X-pipe sound better or two straight individual pipes?

Well, project complete.
Went to my favorite exhaust shop in the city and voila.

Will report back with some preliminary results soon.
Also had the option of going with a MagnaFlow pre fab x pipe as below but the guys in the shop thought it would not make too much of a difference so went with the straight pipes first and if need be can have them stick in the x pretty easily.

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
Looks like a nice clean job. This reminds me of the Pontiac G8GT forums I was on back around 5 or 6 years ago, from there I traded that car in for a CTS-V Cadillac and now the Benz. The Benz is a far better car by far than either of those cars. Everybody was removing their resonators on the G8GT forums, had a similar setup. I ended up doing a Corsa exhaust on mine. It's tempting to do this as I'm sure the car does sound better, but I think I'm just going to leave mine alone. I do have another toy in the form of a 1968 Pontiac goat and that is my car to do modifications too.
