Where can I buy a 2nd ECU for my W212 M157 Engine....
Out of curiosity.....Could it be possible to purchase and have as a spare a 2nd ECU?
Thoughs and opinions welcomed...
Also... If possible... Where can it be purchased and what the cost would be.??

Ok recently this is how mb deals with ecu purchase in texas.
To get a ecu the car has to be present at the dealer and the they have to diagnose it is as a faulty ecu to order one. They will not give you an vin coded ecu over the counter any more.
Hope this help

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
Good question
Technically I would imagine you could go to a part department and just order this
I am guessing $2000.00 or more
Also... Would there be a digital fingerprint of the original ecu vs a replacement they could read?

Your best bet is salvage yard or people parting out their car.
I bought my second ECU for my C63 off a member here. Obviously it is vin coded so the only way to use it would be to clone of your OEM onto the spare one. Then tune it. I only know one company able to do it.

Most dealers don't detect the tune and if they somehow delete it some tuners will re-tune it at no charge. To go through the hassle of having a second ECU is a waste. Think about it, if something major breaks and MB sees you have another ECU with the VIN of your car you will raise more flags than any tune.

I know some people find this ridiculous, but this is actually a great idea.

Better off putting a 20 in the ashtray when you take the car in for service.

Odd that some people don't seem to have any issue with perpetrating a fraud, which is exactly what having a second non-tuned ECU and switching it when you have a problem with your tuned car is.

I would just tune the car and take the risk. Seems most ppl that have tunes have put enough miles on them and havnt really reported any major problems. Also if you have a relationship with your dealer they wont care either. But if you bought the car 1000 miles away to save a few dollars then your prob out of luck since they will have no loyalty to you.
