Who's in it for the long haul?
Some guys have had their cars for a while. I'm curious to hear thoughts from existing owners on whether or not they could see themselves owning this car for a while. Like well beyond the initial warranty period etc.
Right now there isn't anything out there that is a better 'do it all' package in my opinion. There wasn't when I ordered it nearly two years ago either. My car has also been very reliable and drivable in my four season climate. Never let me down.
I'll be in mine for at least four years I think... which is a long time for me lately. Anyone else care to comment?

I kept my C55 for ten years and loved every minute of it. Once my 2016 E63S arrives, I plan on another 10 years.

7 years 75k here ... That's when the elw expires and not a mile/day later it'll be traded in. I'll likely only have 40,000 miles in 7 years

Plan on keep this car for at least 5-6 years. It will all depend on what BMW does to the next generation M5 with xDrive. They are probably 2 years away from the next M5, but with all their recent quality problems, I am definitely waiting for the mid-life LCI version, which would take at least another 3 years. Another factor is the tunability of the next gen E63 AMG. Will the 4.0L V8TT in the C63 and GTS have more headroom that the current M157 engine. In any case, it will be a while before I get rid of the E63S. Loving it more everyday.

I buy a new car about once every 2 years. It rotates between the truck, a two-door sporty thing, my daily, and the wife's daily. What that means is that each car needs to last at least the 8 years until it's next turn. Fortunately for me, my wife doesn't want to trade in her 8-year old Volvo for something new, so the next car in line is the sporty 2-door. I'm looking at P-cars, but I really have a hard time with how they sound. I might be down for another Z06. Who knows. For a car enthusiast, the final decision to buy a sports car is very very grueling for me.
Either way, the E63 needs to last another 6 years (total of 7-8), a couple years outside it's 7/125 ELW. I'm not too worried. The truck never gets miles put on it, so worst case I'll just put the truck off and do something early.
There will probably be something nicer by then, but there isn't really now. Tesla hasn't figured out the interior, and the Panamera and M6GC are 4-seaters only (I need 5). I don't see another 5-seater on the road and think "I really want one of those."

From what I understand from the AMG tuning community, the 4.0L TTV8 has a lot of tuning potential. Remember, it is basically the 2.0L 355 bhp engine found in the 45 series AMG cars times two. And from what I am being told, tuners will be able to tune the 4.0L TT V8 engine well into the 700 bhp range or more. Now will it ever have the mind blowing torque of the M157 engine (859 lbs ft with Renntech full tune and sport mufflers as in my car) or just under 1000 lbs ft with a turbo upgrade? Probably not.

I have 7/135 ELW but it's unlikely I'll be able to reach anywhere near 135K miles. However, I sure would love to start trekking around the globe in the car to go beyond that mileage though. I will need to trade in before the ELW runs out because I sure don't want to be left holding the bag when a major component on a car like this fails. I will surely miss the N/A engine and the sharp pre-facelifted lines.

I'm in for 10 years. We do rotate some other cars in and out every couple years, but I think this one's a keeper for a while. I'll even give it a few years out of warranty and see what happens.

Anyone willing to forecast out the cost maintaining an E63 AMG after the ELW expires, say from the 100K mile to 200K mile mark? Is big stuff (suspension, transmission, turbos, electronics) guaranteed to break or need replacement in that period, or can one get lucky with just regular maintenance?
I know most people spending $75K+ for a car will usually trade in prior to the warranty expiring, and even more probably lease and never worry about it.

Yes, I'm in the camp of get rid of the car before the extended warrantee expires, I've got the 7/125 on mine so I'll probably be driving the car around another 3.5 years or so and see what available at that time, but who knows that's a ways away and things can change quick in life.

My wife sold her last car (2004 Volvo V70R) at 10 years with 60K miles to buy the E63S Estate. If she continues to enjoy the E63S, I can't see her selling it before 10 years unless it becomes unreliable before the 7/100 warrantee expires.
I have a 1995 Nissan 300ZX TT with 40K miles on the clock (my toy). I have had the engine pulled twice in its lifetime to return it to "Time Zero". Not cheap, and the car is probably not worth the money I have put into it, but if you enjoy a car, it is less expensive to maintain it than to buy a new one.
I lease my company car so they are traded every three years. The lease is up in September and I am waiting to see/drive the new GLC63. My decision will be between that and the Audi SQ5. In this way, I can enjoy the new car experience every three years!

300ZX TT very nice, I was considering that and the RX-7 before I picked up my '91 Mr2 No it's not cheap keeping these cars around, but hey everyone needs a money pit (or two)

This is really bringing me back to early days of high school. I wanted a supra, 300zx with t tops, or the 3000gt vr4. Rx7 was on the cusp. Ended up getting/ being able to afford the 3000gt, but the SL model. I still have a special place in my heart for all three of those cars though.

Thank you. I use it as an example: if you truly love a car, you can keep it for years with proper maintenance. I believe my wife feels that her E63S Estate will also last for years (even if expensive to maintain) as she loves the car and can't think of any other car she would rather have. I just wish my Z could keep up with her!
