2011 E63 Gas Mileage
OK so please spare the statement "if you buy a car like this, you shouldn't be worrying about gas mileage" lol
With that said, I am raising this question because I also have an inconsistent rough idle. This is all on a 2011 E63 that I just bought 8 days ago.
So my first full tank of gas ended up at 10.5mpg. Ouch. My 2000 E55 got a bit better than 17 on average driving it hard.
In fairness, I have been testing limits and such getting used to the new car. But 10.5 ???
Does this sound normal? Or even possible? Is the life I now have ahead of me? lol
I mean this is on par with my 1971 F250 Ford Ranger with a 390 in it! Of course it doesn't quite get around like the Benz does.

Already have an appointment for next Wed at dealership for the idle. Also discovered the heater for the front multi-camera has an open circuit from the OBD trouble codes. That is the little black line just below one of the camera lenses on the windshield. Looks like it fried itself!
But still left mainly wondering about this 10.5mpg. Ugh
Anybody else seeing this kind mpg?
Thanks

Why don't you give it a week of babying it and see what your mpg is

Good plan. In fact that is exactly what I have been doing since I filled it yesterday!
Still, though I keep fallling back to my 2000 E55 that I never babied. I always averaged around 17 in city. Now that car isnt this car, but then again this car is 11 years newer. I would think they would have at least become mildly more fuel efficient or at least not worse.
Really what I am hoping for in this thread is for other 2011 E63 owners to chime in with what their average mpgs are.
Thanks in advance

My car is a daily driver and I average between 16.5 and 18.5 every fill up depending how I drive. I have never been lower than 16.5. If I drive just freeway I can get about 20

Yes, thats normal, I don't talk about mileage, if my wife knew what this car gets she would kill me. You said it yourself, you are hammering on the thing probably in sport+. When using C, I can get around 15-16mpg if I'm letting the distronic plus handle the driving for me.
So you have a choice, C and keep your foot light on the pedal or S+ and low gas mileage. i'm a little annoyed that Mercedes engineers couldn't figure out that if your in S+ and cruising along at 50+ mph, maybe it should upshift?
Highway, I get 20mpg doing straight highway. Averaged exactly 20mpg over 1325 miles driving car home from Chicago to Florida.

I get between 15-18mpg. 15 tends to be in mixed traffic and light open areas on my way to and from work. Evenings when traffic is low i get around 17mpg. Late night drives into London approx 30 minutes of cruising with minimal traffic and average speed of 25mph, I get around 18-20mpg.
Bearing in mind, I baby the car most of the time in C (purely because there's too many police/cameras/people where i live) and if i ever do put my foot down, it's like...once every couple of days (if that) and usually on the return drive from London at 1am. IMO it's notably better on fuel than my E55K was.
Hope that helps.

I am getting around 19-20 mpg on a consistent basis. My drive is about 24 miles on state and county roads with speed limits of 55. I have very few stops and traffic is usually minimal. My best according to the DIC is 21.8 mpg.
Just to note... I also have had the trip mpg under 10. But, that would be more stop and go spirited driving and not like on my daily commute.

I also use the paddle a lot to deaccelerate to save the brakes. I got 95k miles out of each set of brakes on the E55. I wouldnt think this should use fuel. Engine is braking, but no throttle. Would you agree?
Lastly, I am there with you about silence on the subject with the wife. Her new GLK 350 is even smashing me on mpg! Of course she drives a bit easier than I do! Lol

If your AMG is a CPO or still under warranty. I would have the dealer check it. The rough idle could be nothing or can break the bank down the road not to mention 10.5 miles per gallon. Our AMG is a gas guzzler as is and I'm sure you don't want to average mile per gallon as you are experiencing .
Good luck and please keep us post the outcome.
P.S. Did you check the service record before you bought it to be sure there was no major service done on your car? It could be a reoccurring issue it could be a wheel parts that needs to be address.

UPDATE,
This morning I reset all trip meters and drove it around town for about 25 total miles. I drove it only in C mode and never punched it.
Result: 13.5 mpg.
Maybe this is about right?
Original sticker I believe was 13/20

I put 192,000 miles on my old E55 (rest in peace, totalled by idiot running a red light) and had ZERO tranny problems. Used manual shifting nearly always from day 1.
I replaced brakes the first time at 95,000 miles !
2nd set at 190,000 miles.
Unfortunately only 3 months before the crash. Ugh.

For example my car on a cold start to work - journey time of approx 20-25 minutes and around 12 minutes sitting in dense traffic right by my house (the rest is generally open roads but with frequent traffic lights and average speed of 25-35mph will get me around 16mpg over the 5 mile journey
I just did a drive back from Central London to my house (35 minutes and ~15 miles) and averaged 19mpg in slow rainy conditions. Not much traffic to sit in though.

Only if you were sitting in quite a lot of traffic.

So I am definitely going to to tell the dealer about this when I take it in on Wed. I think something is going on between the rough idle (that I was able rule out engine mounts- former mechanic, now Mechanical Engineer) and this dreadful gas mileage.
Thanks everybody for your inputs. I will update you later after I get it back from the dealer.

I drive my 2011 E63 like an AMG was built to be driven. I'm not spinning wheels off every line or being a jackass, but I will push it hard when I think it's OK to ie: pass this semi...I might be dropping two gears for this one
I get 17 on the dot, all day every day. I dont know what it is split between highway and street, I do both equally. I'm guessing 20-21 on the highway and ~15 on the streets.

I've been getting 13.7 frequently. On longer highway drives, maybe 18. Furthest she's been driven in one leg is about 180 miles. Still have not gotten over 300 a tank yet.

10-12mpg on my 11 E63 using mostly S+ and Manual mode on a traffic-heavy daily commute. The only time C mode is used is when my wife drives it, or perhaps on a very long highway trip.

I feel like my car is fine now. My commute is about 10 miles each way and about 50% freeway and 50% city. Not heavy traffic. Make the commute in about 10 to 11 mins on average.
Now that I have settled down a bit after getting the first month out of the way, I average about 14.5 each way to work. When I do only city on the weekends I average around 12.5 with an occosional day of 10mpg! Lol
Havent taken her for an extended freeway trip yet, but I suspect I can hit 20+ on highway if cruising in C

Must have been bumper to bumper to get mileage like that. Either that or you all must be doing WOT all the time to lay rubbers on the ground from one traffic light to the next. Or maybe I'm just not driving hard enough.
