M157 Powerband Question- From a Previous M156 Owner

Hi all,

I'm coming from a tuned '09 C63 PP and just moved up into a tuned '12 CLS PP. One thing I've noticed is the gearing seems significantly different in the CLS compared to the C. I used to get the kickdown at 45, 80 and 100(ish) in my C and now I've struggled to find the powerband for each gear in the CLS.

Does anyone know roughly what MPH I need to be going to get into the proper powerband?

Sorry for the CLS talk. I'm posting here since the CLS forum is officially

Have you done a tcu reset??

I would do this first before determining anything else

Search "tcu reset"

I haven't. I'm familiar with the process though. I did do several battery resets though. I don't know if that accomplishes the same thing as the TCU reset though. I'll give it a go today and see what happens.

I thought about this overnight and despite doing the TCU reset (haven't had the ability to test it yet), I don't think that will really change the issue at hand. My question is, if I was going to roll race someone, what would be the ideal mph to be going to hit the lower gear kickdown? In my C63 45mph, 80mph and 100mph were the target zones to be in for a roll race. I haven't seen any noticeable kickdowns yet in my CLS. I know the car is significantly heavier than my C so I probably don't feel the extra power (despite having 650hp/750tq at the wheels) as strongly as I did in my much lighter C class.

Does anyone have input on what mph to be at to roll race these m157 RWD cars?

Based on this graph, roll race from your lowest possible gear given the speed start of the role race... Most seem to start about 30-35mph

Sdg races in sanctioned runway races and he would be one of the best resources for you

Sorry I couldn't help

You want to be at whatever speed you are at about 5,000 rpm. You can figure this out really easy by driving in manual mode and noting the speed you are travelling at in each gear when the motor is spinning at 5,000 rpm.

No, no, no -- if it was vtec advice, it would also include the necessity to place a big *** wing on the trunk!
