Suspension button resets / freezes

I picked up my 14 63 S from the dealer yesterday (motor mounts / trans mounts) and my suspension button started acting up.

Specifically, if it's set to sport+ (both lights on) is randomly changes to sport (one light on) after 5 minutes or so of driving... once this happens it is completely stuck on that setting until I restart the car, then it repeats.

Any ideas?

i drive them all, fast and hard
your car probably realizes that sport plus suspension is absurdly bumpy and wants to go back to regular sport at most

The car had subtle vibrations that can be felt through the floorboard / trans tunnel. It seems to be completely solved. They replaced all three mounts, but I suspect that the trans mount was to blame.

You may be onto something .

In all seriousness, I'm not sure that it actually changes out of sport+. There's nothing on the screen that says it changed... I think it just switches to one light on the button. So weird.

No... There shouldn't be steering wheel vibrations from bad mounts. Bent wheel / poorly balanced tire is the most likely culprit there. These cars are very sensitive to both.

You may have a bad height sensor i.e. Bent, damaged or faulty also something else with the suspension system maybe at fault.. Remember the front struts are equipped with a solenoid for dampening and rears are air springs with a shock that also has solenoids... If the issue started after the mounts were replaced have them check the placement of the front height sensors they may have been installed backwards...

Thanks. I get a bit more of a steady vibration than what feels like an off balance sensation. Maybe it is just the way the snow tires feel on the car. I just purchased the vehicle a few weeks ago so have only driven it with snows. Guess I may find out in the spring when I get to put the summers on.

Thanks for your quick response.

James

Good idea. It definitely started immediately after the mounts were changed.

Just ran a scanner and got code U0402. Anybody know what that is?

That's an "invalid data fault code" usually it's random when communication failed between control units.... When doing mounts they engine has to be dropped so there's a good chance the front height sensors were unbolted from the lower control arms and now they're reading incorrectly which causes the suspension to go into default mode....

This was it... One sensor arm was completely unhooked, and the other was on backwards (the rotating arm was 180 deg out of phase). My guess is that they were both on backwards and one popped off from the pressure.

Here's a quick pic of one of the arms. Luckily it just popped off and didn't break.

I wonder why the dealer guys were messing around in that area doing the mounts, strange. Oh well, glad you solved it.

The actual sensor is mounted to the body so the rod has to be disconnected when dropping the sub frame with the engine... Just a poor re-installment...
