How many here are happy with "just" a tune?
As the title asks.
Are you happy with just a "tune" ?
Would you upgrade turbo's if you could? or most you'd do is downpipes (i assume it isn't a big thing) don't really understand all the mods yet.
lol on my E55 all I did was tune/bigger HE /SC pulley. Some consider it minimalistic mods.
How about you guys?

I don't think it's that everyone is satisfied with a tune... it's just that a tune itself yields you so much extra power and proven track times while upgrading turbos and all that costs significantly more and has not proven significant results.
The mercedes tuning hardware is all out there... the software has to catch up with it.

so most are happy with tune only then.
What is the least amount of horsepower a tune would yield?
at least 70whp? and stock is 550whp ?

Like anything you get used to it and want more. Also depends on if its hobby for you or not. I do all my own work, so I'm always looking to have another project. To me, a turbo car needs downpipes. Changes the character and responsiveness drastically. I would consider downpipes and tune the "minimum" mods for this platform. Now I'm also not what you would call minimalist when it comes to mods, hence I'm doing full turbos, turbo back, and basically every mod currently available, but for some, tune and downpipes should be plenty.

generally stock preface lifts seem to be about 490 whp, facelift 520 whp and S-package 540 whp...... with tune all come to about 600 whp so the delta depends on which car you start with but all end up at about the same level after tune

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ecu tune; edok tcu tune; BB intakes; dyno tuned
But torque gains are a bit more substantial

If after tune alone- this ends at 600 whp then I think i'll be content but if downpipes
improves responsiveness then that's it. LoL
I'm thinking with just a tune E63TT should definitely "feel" more powerful than even slightly modded E55.
Maybe the shocks absorb better on the E63 and deliver power better compared to E55 plus RWD vs AWD could also take the brutality factor away?

You will need mbh headers, 77mm supercharger pulley, and a 82mm or larger tb with ecu and tcu to compete with the P30 rwd or AMGs awd

If my tune gave me all 600rwhp as advertised, I would be happy enough

i had both bolt on e55 (180m/ LTH/ TB/2500 stall) and tuned e63s..... e63 is faster
and to be fair, most all of the e55's that are trapping 130+ either have 3L weistec blower, custom turbo kit, NOS, or ported heads , so not really simple bolt ons like a pulley/header/tb...
i think only 2 e55's ( lowpro and bassn_07 ) achieved 130mph w/o bigger aftermarket blower, nos, turbos or ported heads

Well, I was very happy with the stock car for almost a year. Then was very happy with the tuned car for about a year. Downpipes to be installed when built (two weeks); hope to be happy with that mod until 2017 or so.
Not performance mods, but also debadged and dechromed my car. Not a huge effort, but made me happy, again.

Power is to addicting to settle for just a tune. Some wait a while but the urges take over eventually

Still, the 157 has way more potential. Hope to move up to this platform some day.
