W212 AMG Discuss the W212 AMG's such as the E63

Seems like over 50% of E63s are black, another 20% are white :(

Makes it really hard to find cars if you don't want to deal with one of these two colors.

I think a lot of dudes consider the color because of resale value.....that's the reason I didn't buy a blue E63 back in 2011

I agree PeterUbers, all other coor choices should be discontinued. Also only black interior until MB starts doing more peanut butter, brown or chocolate interiors

That about matches my (admittedly small) sample when I was looking for my E400. 80% of the cars in stock in the Chicago area were black or white. When I explained to my sales consultant that those were the two colors I did NOT want, it narrowed down the search dramatically.

I'm very happy with steel grey.

When was shopping for my E63 last year, there were 10 cars at the various dealers in the Chicago area. 6 black, 3 white and 1 steel grey. I bought the steel grey. I wasn't even considering the color at first, but fell in love with it after seeing it.

Glad I am not alone. They offer a lot of earth tones at least. I think you can't go wrong with any of the silvers (official German racing color) or gun metal greys. The Steel Grey looks great.

I second the steel grey choice. It wasn't my 1st choice when I started looking, but I ended up with it. And now I wouldn't want any other color.

no MBs at the moment :(
Yup, it's one of the reasons I scoured the country for a dealer with an open allocation before production shut down for the S212. I really wanted to get a blue one (though I'd prefer Brilliant or Mystic blue) and all of the cars on dealers' lots are black, white or silver/gray.

By the time I receive my car in June, it'll have been nearly 1 year since I started considering it.

W212 - E63 AMG
Interesting.

Over here in dull, grey UK the most popular are black and boring silver. White is quite rare here and tbh i don't think i've even seen a different coloured E63.

TBH black is my personal fav for most amg saloons and the sharky steel grey is probably second on my list. Funnily enough i really like the navy/tanzanite blue too, but for some reason, it does have a reputation for being lower on the resale than good ol' black. Who knows, maybe that mentality will change with threads like this and people start to opt for the unpopular colours just because they're rare....

I agree, when looking for my car, all available pre owned cars were almost exclusively black. Black is not a color I like on a car. I prefer brighter colors, but I'm thinking a lot of older people buy these and they aren't going for Red or Green or Blue or Yellow etc.

I can see why white is popular in FL, TX, CA, AZ, NV, NM, HI etc.

Black just absorbs the entire UV visible spectrum so it oxidizes that much faster, from the incident UV vis. light and then the resulting IR (heating) that comes afterward.

I searched for weeks for the right Iridium Silver. I like lighter cars, and my last car was a c63 diamond white.

Great thing about silver I can go 2-3 weeks between car washes if I have to. The white and black get dirty so quickly.

Indeed. No black or red for me. Any other color is fine with me.

The black isn't as bad as people make it out to be. Black is probably my least favorite color, but the heat in Florida even with black seats isn't horrible. The A/C goes on, the ventilated seats are on and its cool fairly quick. The wife and I both have black cars now with black seats.

Agreed ... A clean black car looks among the best colors

I had an obsidian black on black e550 and loved it

I have a black on black mdx and we love it and doesn't get excessively hot and leather wear is no worse than our silver and white cars

It's not just about the cabin heat, it's more about how black absorbs so much solar radiation therefore oxidizes and looks worse over time much faster than other cars.

I really have no interest in black, not even when it's showroom condition. Just boring to me.

I was adventurous and picked up my Mystic Blue with Gray leather. I wasn't particularly a huge fan of the gray until I saw this one.. Resale.. ya that may be the case, but I love this color

Clearly, I like an edgy color.. this is my weekend toy as well..

I wouldn't say that is an edgy color, I guess its edgy for Mercedes, but still a beautiful color.

For me, black cars are too "care-intensive" to keep them looking clean and shiny. They show every bit of dust, and I work in a dusty area. They show every swirl or brush mark. When they are all cleaned up and polished, they are stunning. Let them get a bit dirty and grimy and. . .

Also, from my days on the custom car show circuit, black is one of the most difficult paint colors to match, and when working body panels, black is the most unforgiving color. It will show any imperfection in the panel, where other colors might "hide" it better.

I agree, but from all the talk on here it seems like people think the Blue will affect resale value I would say it would only help it stand out and be unique. I would say any shade of gray/silver is hands down the most common Mercedes color (this is just my .02 btw, i don't need the MBUSA spread sheet to prove me wrong). Anyway, I haven't seen near as many white E63's as I'd like to.. I think White is so versatile with wheel color/choice.. Anyway, they are all AMG's..
