Brake job at 50k kms

Get the wear indicator every drive now. im still under warranty but I dont think it's covered. Almost afraid to ask my SA for a price. Would you trust an Indy to do it on this car? Can they reset the indicator? Where is the best place for parts?

Change the pads yourself. It is an easy DIY, and won't cost much to do. Try Porterfield r4s pads and you won't have much brake dust.

If you are getting the light indicator then get the brake job done ASAP. Waiting will only cost you more money, a lot more money. A front rotor for instance is about 1000.00 to 1500.00 each U.S. dollars.

I have heard brake pads are really easy to change on Brembo brakes. Of course, it will be much easier if I can get to watch someone do it. Hopefully someone can put up a pictorial DIY soon.

i did brakes on my e55 and c63 which are pretty similar to e63 and its super easy... just take off wheel, remove pins that hold pads in, compress caliper piston enough to slide new pads in, put pins back in and wheel back on.... drive down road and do about 6-8 hard stops from 60mph to 0 to bed-in pads and your done

900 online, but still its expensive. 1100 and change for the girodisk, 1385 or so for the racing brake, I wouldn't buy OEM myself. At any rate, depending on the rotor wear, probably need rotors anyway. My car only has 50000 miles or so and the rotors are at minimum thickness.

Give Vex Performance a call 403.243.1111 they are a reputable shop as they've done some major work for me before and I was super pleased with their work.

For a simple job like brakes they should be able to do it, and if not they can refer you to another indy shop that is good.

Some pictures with arrows on which pins to knock out and what tools to use will be greatly appreciated.

I had done it with another old car of mine 10 years ago and it was easy, but I had that car's factory manual.

here is a pretty good diy from c63 with pics

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...rake-pads.html

here is also vid for c63 i found... just rear but front is same procedure

generally you should change your fluid too but dont have to... if you want the fluid changed but dont want to do it yourself then you could take it to dealer after you change pads and the dealer will charge about $200 (indy would obviously charge a lot less for brake fluid change)

Thanks, dude! I read through the thread and there are great tips such as spraying with WD40 to help remove the sensor. It looks like I have all the tools plus a full set of punches. It should be a breeze, then. It looks way easier than replacing the pads for my other old car, for which I have to swing up the calipers.

BTW, I wonder what's the purpose on putting the safety stand towards the back. I thought safety stand should be near the corner or end where you jack up the car.

What kind of pads did you end up going with? I am now using ceramic pads with the stock rotors just because the dust pisses me off.

i drive them all, fast and hard
at what point does the dash light come on

im at 40000 miles and fronts , primarily the right side has been squealling like a banshee for a few 1000 miles...when i measured the rotors myself it seemed they are close to minimum

at last service recently dealers just says " needs brakes soon BS"..they wont do actual measurement unless reason for wheels off

I believe the sensors are only on one side. I believe they are on the left side so they won't activate until the left side is worn down. I believe you had the other thread about this as well and they looked close to minimum.

So should we be changing out the sensors when JUST the pads are being replaced? This is before the sensor goes on. I am planning a 6k mile road trip in July and are replacing just the pads, as the rotors are new. I should not have to change the sensors out if they are not lit up correct? If so how many should I order to be replaced.

From the videos I have seen and threads I have read, there are only two sensors. Both of them are on the passenger side. If they are not broken, just carefully remove them and reuse them. Someone after diy reported spraying them with WD40 to ease removal thus to prevent breakage.

I'm pretty sure mine were in the drivers side. I could be wrong.

only if they are warped/cracked or thinner than min thickness...

imagine if you changed you pads/ rotor today, and then they created sooo much dust that you decided to change them again the next day to some dust less pads... would you change the rotor again?

Yeah im sure my rotors are at time to change. I'll probably just have dealer do OE products. Bite bullet. I'm sure they will try to charge for 4 sensors knowing the dealers
