European Delivery E63 wagon

UPDATE 4/24: Here's the build:

Add'l Options
  • Carbon Ceramic brakes
  • Designo Black Piano Lacquer Wood Trim
  • B&O Sound system
  • Park Assist Surround view camera
  • Driver Assistance Package
This car is definitely on the excessive side of my typical financial choices. While I could afford this with my normal day job, I was always too cheap/frugal to spend even half as much on a car even though I'm a car nut. However, last October, I finally sold the 2nd half of a business that a business partner and I had built over the past 8 years. I (with my wife's blessing) wanted to get something to reward myself for working 2 jobs for way too long. While the E63 was always on my car wish list, it took some time for me to finalize that decision. Having never considered a car in the $100K+ range, I felt like a kid in a candy store and wanted to try every type of car: E63, C63, M5, Panamera, Boxster/Cayman GTS, 911S (both 991 and 997), 2012 Cayman R, M3/M4.

While my wife was voting for a 911 or Cayman, I decided to get a car that I'd be able to enjoy most often because 98% of my driving includes my family or going to/from a place where I'll be picking up my kids (my work commute is very short). If I'm spending this much $$, I wanted to drive it, not have a garage queen.

I spent several weeks looking for a used one, --- gotta get onto my flight... to be continued ----

Just a few pics for now, gotta go drive it! Will post details later. Hard to tell with the lighting, but it's Lunar Blue.

That is perfect... what an experience too. I wish I'd ordered my car just like that... in every way.

Nicely done.

Thanks everyone! The car just landed at the Port of Long Beach today.
I've tracked the ship 5-10 times/day ever since I left Germany. I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Thanks! I really, really wanted to be able to order it with my specific options. It really took a lot of work to find an allocation so late into the build cycle. In fact, I had already wired money to a dealer in Columbia, MO to buy a pre-built one when I got the phone call that an allocation was available. I literally felt like throwing up, but the guys at MB of Columbia, MO (Chris Yllescas and Adam Miller) were awesome, standup guys who knew that I really wanted a custom build and didn't stand in the way at all, even if they knew they were going to lose my business. Even before I backed out of the deal, I would've recommended them to anyone.... and I'm in San Francisco!

Yeah, the Center of Excellence treatment was pretty amazing... though I also felt a bit self-conscious sitting by myself eating a 3-course meal surrounded by AMGs while "regular" people picked up their cars in a different room with 50+ other cars.

However, by far, the best part of the trip was the one on one tour of the AMG factory. The opportunity to ask any question and go at the speed I wanted to while walking in between the workers watching them build engines was amazing.

It did. When I pulled the car out front to take a picture in front of the large Mercedes star, the car immediately got swarmed by a group of people.

Nice, I guess you did Splurge, Carbon Ceramic brakes and B and O sound system that car must have been over 130 grand. Very nice though. What is the discount for Euro Delivery like you did?

ED discount for E63 is only 5% (vs 7%) for most other models. You can negotiate on top of that, though it is _much_ more difficult negotiating an additional discount as compared to BMW ED vehicles. My MSRP was around $126K, which may be lower than you expect because I didn't go for any of the other aesthetic options beyond piano black trim, which was around $800, I think - (no carbon fiber inside or out, "free" wheels, no night package, no door pins, no special leather or paint etc). Purchase price was $115K flat before sales tax + reg).

One of the reasons I really wanted to order my own was because most of the cars on the lots had options I didn't care about and didn't want to pay for. They seemed like they had great discounts, but when I only looked at the options I wanted on each car, I wasn't getting a great deal.

That lunar blue is stunning! That AMG factory tour sounds pretty cool too. Did you get to do some driving in Germany before you shipped her off to Long Beach?

Unfortunately only about 9-10 hours of driving across 1.5 days. I tacked the ED on to the end of a business trip in Europe and it's a tough sell to my wife that I spend a few extra days on a European vacation while she stays at home taking care of 2 little kids.

2012 E63 Estate (P30)
I am still in love my Lunar Blue wagon. It is such a deep color and reacts so well to different lighting conditions. The only color I have seen that is more unique is Alubeam Silver

Very nicely appointed!
