You can have an exhaust shop lengthen the post catalytic section so that it's always out

What year is your car?? My 14' tips are mounted to my bumper, not to my muffler, I take it your tips are the actual muffler?

Wish my tips were actually part of my exhaust, MB really cheaped out having the tips mounted to the rear diffuser and the muffler tip sitting back 3 or 4"s behind it on the 14 + cars.. Even my renntech mufflers sit back behind the tips. Anyone have a reason MB did that on the newer cars, is it because of this reason of expansion and contraction??

Let's say you get rear ended, it's a lot cheaper to repair the bumper/diffuser than the exhaust itself.

While I agree that it's a tacky design I can understand it. It probably also helps with warping of the materials in the bumper and diffuser when the exhaust gets hot.

Yea that too it's more easy to fix it than to replace the mufflers in the back

it's normal for non facelift car to have it, but for facelift model, never saw such thing, as tips are not attached to mufflers at all.

Really? 1-Remove rear bumper, purchase new brackets/hardware and new bumper and diffuser, prep, paint, clear rear bumper and diffuser, install and fit new bumper/diffuser.. 2- By a cat back exhaust, or have a local exhaust shop cut out bent section and replace, this seems a lot cheaper to me,,, especially if you get hit hard enough and it doesn't matter, you will end up fixing the rear bumper/ diffuser and exhaust, tips on muffler or not. I'm not buying that reason.

I have the same issue on my 2011. It's always bothered me but I never found a good enough solution to fix it. No one would cut it and extend it without removing the entire exhaust and I just never got around to it.

Yeah this annoys me because it looks nicer when it's outwards slightly and you can see the AMG embossed tips. However when parked up, they shrivel up and on my car, I can barely see the tips.

The only solution is to extend the tips by 1cm...but this then means they'll extend by an extra 1cm when hot too. However I think 1cm extra will still look ok. Any more and it might look slightly odd with the extension being too much.
