Agreed, I needed a real back seat and I didn't like certain angles of the exterior of the cls63

I did like how the cls felt more connected to the road than the E

The E is easier to see out to the rear.

The wagon variant of the CLS63 does come with a normal 3 seat bench at the back, I'm not sure if it was ever imported to North America though.

I actually like the flow of the CLS63's interior better. I liked the refreshed exterior. But ultimately the utility of the E's rear seating arrangement won the day (especially with a child who is still in a rear facing seat.

No wagon and the need to seat 5. No other wagon options from AMG.

Does the CLS offer a fold down rear seat?

I didn't look at one because the E-sedan had depreciated quite a bit more than the CLS (late 2014 timeframe, I think).

If the CLS shooting brake had been brought to the USA, it may have been a contender depending on usable cargo room.

Preferred the styling of the E.
Wanted 5 seats.
Rear seat headroom is compromised in the CLS
Saw no reason to go with the CLS, especially since it costs more.

the rounded rear exterior is too ugly to me... similar to rs7 and panamara to me... prefer squared off lines of e63/m5 rear

1) Less useful back seat with limited headroom. I use my back seat.

2) No panoramic roof option. I absolutely love my panoramic roof as do my occasional rear seat passengers.

3) I dislike the afterthought appearance of the COMAND display screen.

4) The E has better 360 degree visibility.

5) The double "lightning bolt" LED headlight simply looks killer to me and gives it the ultimate uberholt prestige when rapidly approaching some befuddled left lane dolt that would normally not move over to the right lane when a faster traveling vehicle is closing in on them.

6) I prefer the digital HVAC control panel on the E vs the analog adjustments on the CLS.

7) Much more useful trunk space.

8) Why would I pay more money for all of these compromises? If form follows function, the CLS would not exist. However, I do find it to be an aesthetically beautiful car on the outside.

FF. W212 E63 M156 non-pano 18" P2 ParkT NightV (gone but will be missed).
Yes, CLS has split folding rear seat.

CLS and E are pretty much the same turtle in different shells, except some little things such as the rear oem wheel of the CLS is 1/2" wider (no idea why MB chose that). The trunk and rear passenger space of the E is more useful. I believe E also gets better insurance rate compared to the CLS due to all the E350s running around.

Because over here all the facelift CLS63 were in white not my colour at all.

And they were about £5k-£10k more.

All the 2014 CLS models had the old front bumper design, and were not updated until 2015 to the new Mercedes look.

Good thing for the E, is that it wont look terribly outdated with the new model coming out.

Frankly, the new W213 will make the face lifted W212 look even better. The W213 looks far too similar to the new C. I am definitely not a fan. OTOH, the new S class coupe is one sexy beast. A few years to get the bugs out and the S63 will be my next daily driver.

I echo these sentiments. also, i wanted a wagon.
coworker parks his CLS63 next to me everyday. besides the Designo matte paint, i have no regrets. I like my loud rolling box better.
