If anyone is looking for a terrific max performance summer tire, take a good look at the brand new Continental ExtremeContact Sport. I just installed a set and they are simply amazing on the W212. The wet and dry performance is excellent, but what makes them so impressive is that they are so smooth and quiet. On coarse pavement, they mute road noise better than any tire I've had on a Benz in years.

Yes, stock size. Personally, I have zero interest in 20's on the street. The wet and dry traction as well as the nvh is absolutely superb. I really cannot recommend these enough.

Any pictures on how the tire profile looks? Didn't like how the DW sat but heard good things and that these are much better than them.

This is really good news, thank you for the feedback!! I've always liked the continentals that I ran on my cars. They're not Michelin-levels of performance, but they're not Michelin prices either.

I believe that they also include road hazard from the manufacturer on these tires. Where here in the land of bad roads matters.

I have permanently switched to the Conti Extremes from previously only using MPSS. The SS rear tires always had a weird issue with rear end wobble at higher speed under max torque. It would go away after 1000 miles or so, but it was really annoying. It happened on 2 sets. I have had nothing but great performance from the Contis! Well, they do need about 100 miles before the rear will fully hook up. Probably mold release or something.

But considering that the performance (cornering too) is every bit as good or better than the MPSS and that they are noticeably cheaper, it's a no-brainer.

BTW, I used to go with Tire Rack all the time, but here in Cali, America's Tire will match any Tire Rack pricing and you don't have to coordinate having shipped to your installer. Just an FYI.

I've tried Continentals three times over the last decade and each and every time I swear to myself that I'll never put them on again. But then I run across these insane prices for tires that seem to have good reviews and I give in. This last set, the Extremecontact DWs are horrible and wallowy at high speeds. I just had one replaced with the road hazard warranty and in less than a month the sidewall on this brand new tire is already splitting! If any of you hear about me thinking about Continentals again, you have my permission to slap the sh*t out of me until I come to my senses!

Yes but on a different car with the DWS. Seems after just a few thousand miles it gets squishy, even worse on wet roads.

yeah when going from contisportcontact5 to DW it felt like my car became an 70's cadillac /lincoln towncar as the diff was definitely noticeable, but now after having the DW on my car for a few months they ok, but that's just because i got used to them... if i put contisportcontact5 (or similar max performance summer tire) back on i am sure they would feel still as hell in comparison

I have posted here before on my experience with a 2012 running DWS. Although I talked to Continental folks prior to purchasing, and they assured me those tires would perform on this model car, they were a major fail, and at times scary bad. The sidewalls were simply too soft for this car. Using motorcycle terminology, the closest thing I can compare the scary performance at speed to was a tankslapper, That is a real handful when it is a heavy sedan ..
Though some folks have commented they have not had any issues on their awd models, maybe that configuration mitigates this ? I am reluctant to purchase another set though I have recently seen Continental ads stating a stiffer profile on their newest offerings of that tire. It is a shame that we have an awd vehicle, and no selection of tires that we can use in Winter, other than snow specific ones. The awd is so good in this car, you can drive with the max performance tires in snowy conditions, but traction is seriously compromised. .

Just put a set of these on a 2014 W212 to replace the stock Pirellis and am very pleased so far. Have about 1000 miles on them. Smoother and quieter than the stock Pirellis were, but I bought this car used and the Pirellis were 3-4 years old, but very few miles. Michelin does not make the super sport in our size and i did not feel like upsizing. Tread pattern looks similar to MPSS though.

i was looking into these, but i managed 30000 miles on my MPSS ( yeah i guess i drive like a puss)

picked up MPS4S....yeah its a bit pricier , paid 1300 or so with certificates and install. They seem to be pretty good so far

I've run these on my E90 M3. Hated the DW, but loved these. Completely different tire and a huge step up in steering response, dry grip from the DW (and way less squealing), comparable in the dry to PSS (which is what I took off the car at the time) and better wet and cold grip on the M3. I'll second the road noise improvement as well, particularly when worn. The set I have now is down to 4-5/32" and is just now starting to make some noise. The PSS on my car would start to roar and grumble at 7/32". On cars that burn through tires as fast as german uber-sedans, that "worn noise" level becomes important

Any feedback on wear etc. on E63's now that they've been out for a while?

I had them for 10 to 12k miles before the current PSSs. Rear was gone, fronts had another 5 to 10k miles left to go
Wet traction was phenomenal for how worn those rear tires were. Noise levels were great, balances much better than brand new PSS even below the wear bars.

Main con was that it did not come in 295/30, had to use stock sizes only front and back. Bent two rims with them on.
I have typically run a plus one in size and kept pressures in the low 40s. Did not bend rims with this setup on any other brand (plus sizes)

Edit: PSS seem better with cold traction (below 50 degrees). But I have not had any 20s and 30 degree temps to compare yet
