New exhaust setup 14 E63s

Car is eurocharged tuned, the h pipe really makes the idle smooth. Car has no mufflers also not as loud as you would think.
I ran a 11.07@127.5 on stock resonators, going to give this a goo this when the rain lets up.

Yea, a lot of pops but probally more a result of not having cats.
With out the H pipe you get a rough idle, I have gutted stock cats. Removed the braket around the exhaust looks a lot cleaner. Will get a rear diffuser soon!

I have to get under the car and see how easy it is to gut the cats.

It's pretty easy, about 10 bolts to remove, 2 on each cat, 2 on each midpipe bracket and 1 on each side of the resonator coupler and then you'll want to cut the cat to put an impact hammer or screw driver/chisel to get to the catalyst material. There are 2 walls of it as well One in front of the Secondary O2 and one behind it. The primary O2 is on the top of the pipe and the secondary O2 is in the middle of the cat. Kind of strange IMO compared to previous AMGs that had them on the lower pipe.

Did you hit 11.07 with your gutted cat and tune? Those are great numbers with just a tune from Eurocharge. What is the hp and torque gain?

I was thinking of Renntech, Weistec, or Eurocharge.

11.07 was on nothing else than gutted cats and muffler delete to along with my eurocharged tune. I also am running OEM plugs gapped to .022. There literally no discussion eurocharged > the rest. I did a $200 cat delete(gutted stock cats) and $100 muffler delete and running the 10th fastest time on drag times. Needless to say the proof is in the pudding on this one.

Gutted cats for sound and power. I can't see a reason to go and spend ~$2k on "off road" down pipes that aren't true Downpipes removing the turbo bridge pipe. That being said. VA does a visual inspection. So I chose to get then instead of cut it and weld in a new pipe. Atleast it looks stock :-) And that video has me considering doing the Turboback pipes. Have a guy who makes solid engine mounts locally and was thinking of doing them when those go in too

I know running catless downpipes definitely adds more power over stock, but muffler delete,is that just for sound or does it also add any power?

But is it worth it? How much difference are we looking at between turboback downpipes and just going with catless downpipes?

According to weistec they got some 680whp with Turbobacks. And personally I don't think their tuning is the best. I think other shops could get more power from that setup. Especially dyno tuned. And I feel, if I'm going to pay to put in the engine mounts, I might as well do the Turboback while in there.

Muffler delete might get you a few extra hp. But people do it for the sound to get more pops and V8 gurgles.

Smell

How’s the smell with gutted cats and had anyone gutted their cats AFTER getting a tune? Was it a noticeable gain ?

Not quite the answer to your question, but I did the dump pipes and front cat delete AFTER the tune and it was a massive difference.
my tune was done on the full factory exhaust and that took my rwd only car down to 11.4 from 11.9. cant get traction to re run it now. ( don't want to buy drag tires, supposed to be a daily ! ) plus I have a drag only car.

That answers it. So basically you got turboback down pipes i’m guessing. How is the smell?

the entire system is under sized. You can squeeze 800-900 hp out of it of course. But it’s struggling . You will gain hp by even just gutting the cats. But if you were to get a 3” catless dp and do 3” from mid Exhuast to 3” straight through mufflers, you will gain a good amount of power. Drop quarter time raise
mph and lower back pressure, and you should see a drop in waste gate duty cycle making the turbos more efficient. Then at some point if the motor is down do a bridge pipe.

i would most definitely do all that and more if I had an e63. But it’s just a 2013 e550. And I don’t wanna put too much money into it. Gutting the cats, removing rear mufflers and rear resonator, adding an x pipe, and using stock 2.5” pipes should suffice for me. I’ve done all this already besides gutting the cats.

Hi. Like Cifdig said you should consider bigger exhaust. Maybe only downpipes if it fits better to budget. M278 exhaust size is only 60mm (2,36") not even 2,5". You can make M278 also run pretty nice and fast.

Look this exhaust thread https://mbworld.org/forums/cls-coupe...-diameter.html
