Possible to replace Auxiliary battery without disconnecting main battery first?

I'm thinking of DIY Auxiliary battery replacement for E63 AMG 2014, and is it absolutely required to disconnect the main battery first? Also do I need readjust panoramic glass roof by removing fuse and reinstalling something like that. Thanks a lot.

Not sure if it is absolutely required. However, in case it's not obvious, disconnecting the negative terminal of the main battery is all that is necessary. That doesn't take more than 30 seconds. Guessing you are concerned about both being disconnected and the possibility of losing various programming? I don't believe this will happen, but I am not certain. If it were me, I wouldn't disconnect the main battery. But I don't want to advise you to do the same without knowing for certain.

Pretty sure some guys on this site have done this replacement and can answer with more certainty.

I wasn't clear about your roof question.

Hi, Not so sure this is for AMG. I saw auxiliary battery in the rear trunk.

to remove AUX battery by itself it does not say to disconnect the main battery.

Just change it out by itself.
make sure you protect REd Positive cable from grounding when off battery.

Hi Thanks, You meant AUX battery in the rear trunk for E63 AMG correct?

AMG
I changed my main and aux battery separately. Can be done without effecting one another..

I actually didn't have to change or reset anything after the battery changes.
