How to make m157 e63 amg s crackle and pop?
Hello everyone! I am a new member to this forum, so I dont even know if i’m posting this thread properly, nor do i know to check if this thread already exists besides scrolling for hours trying to find it. I have a 2014 e63 amg s model and ive have it for about a month now. I am looking for an exhaust setup that will make this thing crackle and pop, kinda like the new 205 c63 amg’s, but i dont want it crazy loud. Keep in mind, i do live in california, so i must keep my cats on. Also if its possible, at the same time, i want to increase the turbo noise on it as well. Thank you everyone!

You can tune in that crackle pop ... a tuner could help you with that or you can remove the cats or mufflers

I think its called a “burble tune” but i also remember reading that the burble tune doesnt get along with cats. I think your best bet would be to either remove mufflers or resonator or both.

If im not mistaken, wont a tune just make my a/f ratio really rich? If so, that would annihilate my cats, and i need my cats and possibly a stock tune as well so i can pass smog, i do live in california.

you are asking for burble and pops but dont want to mod your exhaust or tune the car? then you're not going to get it simple as that. If you dont want to do any of this then you're better off without the burbles and pops. Also Cat delete and/or res delete does not drone at all. I have heard SOME people report drone from a muffler+Resonator delete. My car is catless and resonator deleted with straight pipes 0 drone whatsoever.

Tune has nothing to do with smog

You can get a burble tune with stock cats and exhaust with no problems. Stock W213s the GLE63s with the M157s, and a host of other AMGs all have it, nothing to it.

I have the burble tune from AMR along with their performance tune, which installs via the OBD port. Takes 2 minutes, and you can return it to OEM anytime you wish. Overall the sound change is very subtle. Not much in the way of burbles, but it does throw pops and crackles when letting off the gas at around 4k, and only in S+ or M mode, so you can be subtle or more aggressive.
I was hoping for more of the W213 sound.
Matt at AMR is excellent with customer service and very responsive. He has been working with the burble tune file, I just loaded the second version as the first was causing hesitation and jerky throttle response from 3-2k. We will see how this version does. The performance tune makes my wagon pull even harder. I have not put her on a dyno.

Thank you! This response was very helpful and informative. Exactly what I was looking for. If you don’t mind me asking how much did you pay for the tune?

I purchased the performance tune which was around 2k. The burble tune was an add on for I think another $300, might have been less. The files I received were the performance tune, or the performance tune with burble. That was you can choose what you want to run. It’s super easy to change via the OBD port and Genius hand held. I think Eurocharged has a similar setup available.
You load the tune files onto the Genius from your PC, then plug it into your OBD port and load the files into the ECU, then go have fun.

Mercedes, BMW, Audi, etc etc all need to fire their engineers for this awful burble tunes they gave been putting on their cars from the factory.
Don't they know the turbos will all implode?

OEM burbles are done in a way more complex deeply tuned way then the aftermarket pop and bangs via late combustion. That is why you can keep your turbo's and cats without damage in oem form and you cant with these aftermarket tunes. They are not in anyway one in the same.
