Honest opinion guys.
Ok, so I am close to purchasing a 2013 Audi S8 41k miles, white, all options except night vision, for $45k. But the same dealer just got in a black E63 (43k miles) , which was the car I wanted (more so the S model) after my engine went in my 2010 E63 2 years ago, but I always wanted an Audi S8 also. So torn, if I get the mercedes I'll be out $800 (paid for shipping on S8) but if you guys had to choose which would it be? What are the real stats on both (I've seen numbers all over the place) I'm just a bit confused right now lol.

I've never had S8 or E63, but I have many E classes before ( Gas and Diesels) and now I own A8 TDI. To me - these two cars are not comparable. A8 should be compared to S class.
Audi is muuuuch more luxurious inside then E class. I'm sure both of them are fast. I would test drive both and get the one like more.

I seen your thread on the s8 forums and then came over here to check out the replies haha. The S8 imop has a much nicer interior, a bit bigger if you need the space as well. Full air suspension. I think its a better bang for buck vs e63. Im sure both have there known issues as well... Have to remember the s8 has the downpipe vibration issue. Also quite a few have had there turboes blow due to the crap oil feed screen getting clogged.

You’ll have a nicer and quieter interior in the Audi with a much better ride. The W212 E63 is no where near the handler that the new W213 is so you’re not giving up much if anything in that department either. The S8 is faster if you’re into tuning or light modding. E63 looks better if you’re tastes are more sport oriented. The E63 also is the best sounding, especially with catless DPs and resonator delete. Overall, the S8 is probably the better car but knowing it’s faster tips the scales for me.

Given that you were clearly good to go with the S8 so much so that you paid to have it shipped, stick with it. You also mentioned that you really wanted an E63S. Even though the base 63 is a great car, you’re compromising for the non-S. You’re not compromising with the S8. You don’t want to think geez, I should have gotten the S.

Now, if you want to bag the S8 and hold out for a 63S, different story.

Love the S8 and I like where you're buying this in terms of depreciation and mileage. It hits the sweet spot. If I was buying a sedan and had to choose between the two I'd take the S8 over the non S E63. If it were an E63 S then it would come down to condition and price of the two cars. Great choice for either car.

You can tune that non S e63 and be as powerful as a tuned e63S

you give up LSD and some cosmetic parts only with the non S

Is this the S8 plus that has the rs7 engine?

No the regular one before the plus, 4.0TT, 520HP 481 lb-ft/ Plus went up to 605 Hp/517 lb-ft, up 85/36, but same body style etc.

If you get the S8 and still have reservations, just go hunt down an E63S to line up against. You’ll likely never think twice about your decision again.

Ive raced an audi s8 before, i think it was a 2015. We raced twice both from a roll at around 20 mph, my settings were traction off, trans S+ , susp s+ and we were pretty even but i started pulling on him after 90 mph. Not by alot tho it was a pretty even race, mine is a e63S bone stock. Both are very nice cars.

Was also looking at S8 Plus and test drove one 2016 with 11K miles today.
It's REALLY hard to compare S8 with E63S...they are very much in different "weight classes"
S8:
drives like heavy, big, very fast, almost silent, ultra luxury automobile and it's competitor definitely an S-Class.
Surprisingly isolated ride with very little road feel. steering feels almost vague
Speed comes in a smooth wave, seamless shifts
E63:
Our interior feels...dinky, dated and cheap compare to S8 LUXURY cabin.
Better Sound - NO COMPARISON - and my car is stock

The S8 is that fast? What the hell am I missing?
edit: googled it and was surprised to see it was packing a TTV8 and the new one has over 600hp. I was clueless about this. Always loved the S8.

And unlike Mercedes, VERY receptive to tuning and enjoys launching hard!
