E63 5.5Biturbo engine mounts

Hi,
How long does it take to change the engine and gearbox mounts on the 5.5 RWD engine? My local Indy says the data sheet doesn't provide a time to complete the job, anyone done it in here?

Many thanks

Trevor

Get some Aftermarket Mounts from EastCoastEuro. These are apparently a lifetime part. I just had them installed, there's a slight change in smoothness but they're still far more stable than stock. As far as costs I have a guy I work with in the Mid Atlantic Area outside of Baltimore. He used to be a MB Technician prior to opening his business. When he was planning on doing just the mounts, he was going to drop just the subframe from the motor and support the engine while in the bay as the subframe was lowered and the mounts replaced there. It was about $600 cheaper than what I did because I had the turboback pipes installed at the same time. Regardless, I shopped around before deciding and most shops quoted me in the $1500-1900 range for this job. You may want to suggest this technique and see if it changes their pricing at all.

Wow - any details? A $1,500 job that is not hard? Maybe you found a shortcut?

,👍

Thanks all ,👍 what exactly is involved then with the RWD cars? Subframe drop? Do you have to split the exhaust from the turbos?

Many thanks

Just got mine done at dealer. The right side engine mount has tons of room, the left side requires you to drop the steering rack to get access to it.
The trans mount is super easy, just 3 bolts, no need to drop exhaust or anything.

Mine was covered under warranty thankfully, the SA said it usually costs about $3600 for all 3 mounts. My vehicle is a AWD model so I’m not sure if it would be different for the RWD ones.

what are your symptoms btw? Rough idle, harsh shifting?

Sorry to hijack.

Cerberus - do you have any recommendations for local Nova tech? Or do you go to your Balmore guy due to lack of trusted shop here around the Beltway? I also need to baseline dyno the car....

thanks

Many thanks all. It just feels a bit loose when pulling away and on hard up shifts the car almost moves left/right a little. They aren't broken, just a bit worn being original I would think.
