squeaky/creaky front end

Got the link to the YouTube video I made below for some reason I can't upload it?.

But basically I can sit in my car jump up and down and the front will squeak and creak? does the bushings need lubricant and if so which one? And what type of lubricant?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=7TxzDr...ature=youtu.be

I had the same issue maybe 2-3 months back. Changed the drivers side control arm and it solved the issue

That’s the picture the mechanic sent me, is that The lower control arm? It was the most irritating sound driving slow and hearing it over every bump. I would hear it getting in and out of the car.

Same here drivers side

What I noticed is that nothing was wrong with the hardware except that the arm was moving to the rear of the car off the bushing. I swap out the arm and had an alignment done and all was good. I did an oil change and guess what the arm is starting to move off the bushing again. Good thing I kept my old arm and hard a friend centered the bushing and he spot weld the bushing to the arm to prevent this movement. Next oil change I will swap to my old modified arm and will be doing the same with the arm I removed as I have a few W212 family/friends. The arm is the same for all W212 not difference n AMG or E350 E550 all the same.

Really?! That's insane! You remember ball park how many miles you have driven the car before this was observed on the new arm? MB needs to step up and take responsibility for this. Not cuz this "was once a $100K car" but cuz it's very apparent there is something wrong with the way the car was built. All of us had the same exact part fail (mine gave out at 30K.)

I’m at 35,000 miles on mine and I already had the lower control arms replaced once at about 20,000 miles. I get the creaking and clicking every time you turn dealer said it was normal but I’m taking it back since I still have a year and a half left of extended warranty. I agree this is ridiculous that this part feel so bad

"Yes, It's normal for these cars to go through a driver's side cross strut every 15-20K miles" I have never heard of a bigger crock o' .... Are you sure it's the same part that has gone bad again though?

Yea, this is very common and honestly unacceptable.
Ive seen them go bad in 10K-15K miles on some cars. Always the drivers side.

Just had both sides done about a month ago. Saw the issue on the driver side during a midpipe install...

Guess I'll need to keep an eye on things and watch if they start to go bad again- I like that spot weld idea, but wonder if it alters the bushing material heating it up or makes it behave differently.

Hey if you ever do the spot weld on one of those arms again can you make a video?

@around 17k with a dealer arm

if I did not have my old arm I would have tried a RockAuto arm. My old arm ws also a replacement. One I have my welded arm I am sure it will be the last time I chance it unless the ball joint goes.
Funny my friend E350 one at 10k no problem one with 70K no problem.
An E550 with 90k is starting to show movement and he will be getting a welded arm once I remove mine. it must be power related.

Hey so if anyone has this issue like I displayed in the youtube video(also in cylinder heads picture), it is the result of a bad driver side lower (rearward) control arm had it changed and its all good now!

That is absolutely insane!
Out of curiosity, do you track or road race your car or something?

Nope - not even close.
Never tracked the car, no road racing (too old). Usually alone, so no heavy weight. Never drive hard when loaded.

Do I drive for fun? Yup. The one thing I do think about is that I drive 99% with suspension in Comfort (roads around here are pretty poor). Maybe that allows for more suspension movement and hence faster movement of the bushing?

I am a bit **** about noises etc though. Maybe others just ignore the squeak and don't care?

No idea how you can track this car with that lower arm? It must move.
One heavy braking zone followed by transition and turn will move this thing right away.

Are you guys preloading the bushing/control arm before tightening the bolt/nut? This is a common mistake that is often overlooked and leads to bushings failing faster then normal

I have replaced just about everything...

But the noise persists. Mine sounds more plasticky and less metallic. Only thing I haven't done is shocks, they are next. Ridiculous design and build quality on a car like this.

I'm having the same issue; bushings for both the lower control arms and torque struts are bad. Can the bushings just be replaced or does the entire component need to be replaced?
