CPO 15 E63S Sight-Unseen Opinions

Hey guys i've been on a long & extensive search for a 14-16 E63S. I finally found one, unfortunately it would be a sight unseen purchase as its about 1500mi away . Now it is a cpo vehicle which is some insurance as far as a major paintwork etc. goes(hopefully they meet some kind of criteria) , but after seeing some of the stuff that has slipped by during the cpo process with others it leaves me uneasy . Considering a 3rd party inspector such as lemon squad just because.. Has anyone had experience with their amg vehicles sight unseen , did you utilize any other 3rd party inspectors ?

Said vehicle all checks out except for one thing I caught in the pictures . The hood to the top of the front bumper gap looks larger then other 63's .Some of it could have just been the angle at which they were taken . I could be wrong & over analyzing. Radiator support & hood have proper labeling . Pictures attached of the hood if anyone can shed some insight - it would be greatly appreciated .

Where is the car and what does the carfax tells you? Make sure they send you the paint meter reading of each panel along with underneath of the vehicle for any rust issues? The certification process can have up to 2 painted panels before they even declare it to the customers and funny thing is, bumpers are not included in those 2 panels. So you can buy a certified vehicle with front bumper/hood and one of the front fenders painted and not even told about. Paint meter reading is a must.

Carfax clean all checks out , yes 100% on paint gauge if I decide to put a deposit on it . It spent a good part of its life in Texas..

It is. My W212 looked like this one you're looking at until I hit a deer. Once repaired, it looked better than before.

I've bought 2 e63s in the past month. One was a 22k from carvana that I returned. Carvana claimed it past their 150pt inspection an only had 1 small nick on the hood. but in reality, it had 3 very bent rims, 7 year old dry rotted tire, broken sunroof, missing interior pieces, among many other things..... and the front bumper had been rammed into a curb so many times it almost wore through the plastic. the VMI shows this car was a CPO just 3k miles before carvana got it.
Not to knock on anyone, but In my experience, some people lack that car 'gene'. I would suspect your car has seen a few steep ramps, parking barriers or curbs and thus misaligned the bumper. As mentioned a few post earlier, the alignment is easily fixable, but there will be scrapes
Is this the one in Fayetteville?

Bought my 2016 sight unseen out of Chicago.

I was plenty nervous about it but between the CPO, the documentation, the purchased ELW and me talking to the sales guy for a week straight basically begging him to be honest with me about the condition of the car (he sent me an additional 30 pictures and videos) and I took the plunge.

It's a huge roll of the dice and I lucked out. I should have spent the $300 roundtrip airfare and looked at it in person but I had too much stuff going on at the time. The car was exactly what I had been searching for for months and I just panicked. I would NOT advise this path unless you have a backup plan to deal with stuff after-the-fact. Once dealer has your money they're not going to be bending over backwards to help fix things.

I think that front hood/bumper gap is normal and the sun blasting straight down into the gap in that one picture makes it look abnormal. In the other pics, atleast to me it looks perfect.
As mentioned, buying site unseen will always be a gamble and a stressful situation. Sometimes the car exceeds your expectations and sometimes it disappoints. I’ve had both happen.
The CPO process IMO is a little reassurance, but doesn’t mean all that much to a picky car enthusiast. Just find a good sales guy that replies to texts immediately and is willing to take a ton of pics of everything. On a black car it’s actually not too difficult to find a repainted panel, scratch, or even dents in a lot of high quality pics. I bought mine site unseen, but it had low miles and I had very good vibes on the private owner on this one from the beginning. It did not disappoint.

Goodluck with everything!

just look up a local MB mechanic and have them drive it over for a ppi. usually best $100 you'll spend. I've never seen any half decent dealership say no to a 3rd party ppi request
i bought mine sight unseen too but knew everything was/wasnt wrong with it before the car got here and they knew to look for way more stuff than I would have anyway.

where is the car? I'm in Austin, and I used to be a MB tech. I don't mind going and looking at it for you. I'm sure it's much slower than mine, so no need to Hoon it either...lol

Hit me up in DM if you are interested.

That blue motor mount is stock. My ‘14 has a blue mount and the car only has 4,000 miles and according to the VMI it’s never been touched. 👍🏼

Cool that makes me feel a little better. What color is the coolant supposed be on these?

Did notice it has an aftermarket windshield , anything this can interfere with on our cars ? does have distronic , did not notice any issues or anything not working, but just checking ?

One other thing is there supposed to be slits in the corners of the carpet for ecu access on the passenger front footwell carpet ?both corners look like pic below

As someone who has been burned with a CPO before I wouldn't do it, especially with how it relates to body work.

Take BMW for example. Repainted? CPO eligible. Body work in the excess of 5k? CPO eligible. As long as a structural part wasn't actually removed or cut out, it's CPO eligible. Find the Mercedes-specific verbiage but I bet they won't be that far off.

CPO isn't what it used to mean. No substitute to a good tire-kickin' session especially if you're particular.

CPO really doesn't mean anything. Last time I bought a 2006 E55 CPO sight unseen, all 4 tires needed replacements and was a big hassle i had to involve my local MBZ dealership. Another time I bought sight unseen a CPO BMW, it had a painted bumper and the right fender and the pictures they shared, it was hard to tell. Last year I almost bought a 10K miles 2014 E63S sight unseen until i saw the pictures ( I requested) of underneath showing significant rust. I knew something was up as they will not certify the car even with 10K miles so i knew something was up.

Better to go see it in person to avoid hassle later on

Blue motor mounts are stock.

It's weird, but yes that is the normal coolant temperature.

I'll have to double check on the stock coolant color. It's definitely not the old school green. Probably orange or blue

I don't think I've ever seen a cut carpet in the passenger footwell. I'll check mine, I don't think I've ever lifted up the floor mats

Ask for the windshield, as long as the cameras weren't touched or anything it should be fine. I've read that sometimes they might need to be recalibrated after windshield install. But as long as distronic is working, as well as the adaptive high beams. You should be good to go

Never, never trust a CPO, or a dealer inspection. You're doing the right thing by inspecting it yourself.
My first e63 was a CarMax one, it was completely trashed with only 22,000 miles on it.
What's even worse, is it was sold as a CPO just 4,000 mi before.

My coolant is orange (see my post https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...ml#post8297626). But I’m not sure if it came with the car when it was new or not as I’m the second owner. :-)

Thanks for the info, very helpfull . This one is at a bmw dealer , initial post was pertaining to a cpo at mb . Sending it to a non partnered mb dealer on Monday for a ppi. Only thing that left me uneasy is the carpet slits odd. The trans ecu is behind the passenger foot well ? wonder what reason someone would have to go in there and cut it .One thing mentioned in another group was the cabin filter maybe carpet was yanked back to swap it ..
