Had xpel applied to front half of vehicle about 2 years ago. Then had ceramic pro applied to entire vehicle. Well anyways some kind soul keyed me pretty bad. When body shop was removing xpel in preparation for the repair some paint peeled off the hood.
All repairs are done entire hood both fenders and passenger front door all had to be repainted. I have to wait 2 weeks for paint to cure before I can have xpel reapplied but I'm kinda torn due to the paint peel. I mean am I looking at having the car repainted every time xpel is replaced?
Reaching out to the group for insight / input. Have any of you encountered this with Xpel application?

Are you the original owner?
Can you check the paint thickness with a paint meter to see if the hood has been resprayed before?
It can happen with the original paint too ( Inexperienced tech) but mostly when the paint is not original.
I recently ran into a similar situation . My 63 had aged xpel that was starting to yellow . Since it is my daily driver that see's winter & some iron fallout from the train station . I weighed it out , better bang for the buck for me was to correct & coat the car instead for ease of cleaning & maint. .
As ppf just for the front end is 2k in my area, I didn't feel it was worth it .
How did they remove the xpel? Heat gun, steam? Did they follow xpel guidelines
was this OEM paint under the xpel?
Hmmm I didn't watch the actual removal but this is the body shop the merc dealership uses so I'm gonna lean towards them following best practices. This is all factory paint so I was really shocked! Thanks for feedback! Do you have xpel?

I don't have a paint meter, probably wouldn't know how to use it if I did have one lol

Yeah that's where I'm leaning towards also tbh. It's in garage all freakin day and not my daily driver.. but on the other hand i hate rock chips! There's no pleasing me 😂

your joke/sarcasm is lost on me, sorry if I offended you.
Happy to help, good luck with the re paint I'm sure that'll be pricey, hope it blends well
i should say I've taken off read quarter panel xpel without issues .. had chips and then re applied new xpel
im OEM designio diamond white pearl
your status on the MBWorld site shows as 'MBWorld Fanatic' was all I meant. yes, the work came out primo, cannot even tell where the original scratch was at anymore and they did wonderful job with the blend. The fact that the paint peel was in a small section of the hood , along with your feedback about issue free rear quarter panel removal, is leading me to think that perhaps this was just some isolated incident. I think I'm gonna just reapply the xpel. thanks!
