Brake fluid change

My car is 2016 with 20k miles (bought in January 2022 and it had 11k miles) and the service history does not indicate a brake fluid change. I just swapped to EBC red pads and even though the reservoir looks very clean, I had to retract the pistons a bit for new pads likely moving around dirty fluid. I know MB uses their own machine that utilizes pressure to force new fluid through the system when changing. Is this mandatory for fluid replacement or will the traditional method of bleeding and pumping the brakes work just as well?

You can bleed to traditional way, but it's so much easier using a pressure tank and adapter to force fluid from the master down to the individual calipers:

This is well documented on this site. It’s easy for any MB. Senior Leigh on YouTube has a video for W222 I believe and click on my DIY for more info. Easy DIY job and for an Indy.

You will be surprised how cloudy and cruddy the fluid is even when changed at the specified interval of 2 years.

How much fluid is needed to bleed the entire system? I was reading a post where it stated to use the power bleeder to simply pressurize the system and not to exactly force new fluid into the reservoir. Just make sure the reservoir was full each time you pressurize. Anyone know what benefit that adds?

Pentosin DOT 4 seems to have the best ratings. Thoughts on fluid? My car does not see the track.

The fluid in my reservoir looks very clean but I am sure the fluid in the calipers and lines is discolored and dirty. When forcing new fluid through the system, what are the most important indicators to close the bleeder again? New fluid color and no bubbles?

My DIY spells it out. I think 2 liters is more than enough.

Click on the link in my signature. Here is the brake fluid replacement: https://mbworld.org/forums/gle-class...ml#post8153117

It's an easy procedure if you have average-level automotive DIY skills. I think 1 liter of fluid is enough, but I wanted more than that amount in the pressure bleeder tank to be on the safe side. So I bought two bottles from the dealer and poured them both into the pressure bleeder.

Nice writeup

I've seen the MB fluid in both plastic and metal containers. Is there a difference? I want to stick with oem fluid

The dealer sold me fluid in metal cans last time, after selling me stuff in plastic bottles two years earlier. Look through the DIY and this is mentioned. Same stuff.
