200 cell catted downpipes with NO tune; CEL? Pointless?

Looking for y'all's opinions/experience with catted downpipes with 200 cell cats.
I read through a bunch of posts here, but couldn't find any definitive experience on if an un-tuned car will trigger a CEL with low restriction cats?

And second, even if they don't trigger a CEL, do you guys think there is any point, any benefit to power?
Or just a little sound?

2014 E63S; AMS 100 octane ECU dyno tune; EDOK TCU tune; BB intakes; sprintbooster
Can only extrapolate your scenario with catless downpipes no tune, as I've not yet read on 200 cat DP's no tune with a good pre and post measurement of power/dragy:

in favor of more power:
https://mbworld.org/forums/w212-amg/...hout-tune.html

in favor of less power:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-c63s-...hout-tune.html

You have read all these and so have I - your scenario is good for sound only until someone shows me data to support otherwise. $0.02

Some time ago I started a thread with regards to Black Boost's 100CEL DPs. I figured, if one were to go down this route, why not go with the highest flow cat available? No one responded to the thread with any first hand experience.
Someone from MBH Headers/Exhaust responded by saying that replacing your catted stock DP with an aftermarket set of pies with cats was simply a waste of time and $.
Aside from the aforementioned, the only other thing I got to offer regarding this topic is a bunch of reading and videos on youtube. To make a long story short... if going catless and tuned can only net you ~30HP (that's VS tuned and stock DP; and I believe I have read that's on the high end) what can a "slightly less restrictive" cat gonna get you for ~$3K?
And I think you know this deep down, Kenneyd... you KNOW how unrestricted the stock exhaust is... ya just want those shiny pipes, lol!
Thanks for the YouTube vids!
Keep up the good work!

I would do Catless for the sound alone.

Well I put catless pipes on my 430, makes my whole garage smell, I actually put the cats back on.

To my knowledge, All These are made in China and rebranded by companies like red star etc... So I went straight to the source and had some 200 cell downpipes made for my 430. The company also makes e63 pipes and offered me a good deal on some 200 cell (actually can pick 100, 200, 300, 400).

I'm still burned from my terrible eurocharged experience, kind of afraid to get it tuned still. So I want downpipes that don't require a tune.

Ideally that plus a edok TCU tune from soko might be my ideal setup.

I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't seem anyone or any company can guarantee no CEL even with high quality 200 cell cats on stock software, because of variations in sensor sensitivity and different software versions creating different outcomes with 200 cell CEL on/off.

I did hear a 200 cell cat car in person it actually did sound good and added a nice touch of sound.
o2 spacers prob being the best bet, few local guys here in NY had success with vibrant adjustable spacers.

I had also thought about going this route + a resonator delete (but sorta don't wanna hack up the OE exhaust).
I don't drag race and dun care about 1/4 mile times. I only do the occasional highway pull and I think that sorta gets covered more by "higher HP" from a ECU tune than a TCU tune and any sort of exhaust work.
Pls let us know how it goes if you end up pulling the trigger on these.

FWIW I am running 200 cell cats on my 911. They have zero smell, no CEL and make the car sounds so much better.

The big HP guys find that the 200 cell cats are a bottle neck (m800 twin turbos) and going to straight pipes gain 80+.

I have 2 sets of HFC for 2 separate exhaust set ups (using the OEM Sport exhaust and the other just straight pipes off the cats) and neither trips a CEL, and both sets use the HJS cats.

I have burned through 'cheaper' cats (Vibrant/Magnaflow) pretty quickly in my RX-7 and this is not uncommon with many suppliers. HJS cats are considered reliable/high-end/durable.

I love how much louder my C63 was than the E63, but at the same time also like how quiet the E63 (on the inside). I turned my quiet on the inside (loud on the outside 911) into a loud on the inside car, and I am giving myself the side eye.

With catalytic convertors they have doubled in price since 2019, and their relative added value has dropped. If you want ultimate performance, just go with straight pipes and accept (enjoy) the increased volume and the smell. Having had (still have) cars with straight pipes, I find the smell annoying.

Another factor I have to consider, I can't install catless downpipe on my channel, I'm pretty sure the EPA would find me pretty quick lol
