Oh boy, like waiting for a new phone to release or something. There is always something newer.
The way inventory are reduced everywhere, the newest SQ formula is going to target the masses of Toyota/Ford 1.8L 4Cyl. turbos with "gas saving" formula... the greatest burnt oil for 15kMi.

Chemical limited lubrication with dismal viscosity is not what ECU need to seal rings. Bosch will need to revamp timings computation for drafty cyl.

I will stick with SP then The API SP(ecial)/S(u)P(erior) formula.

I am doing the next oil change latest October, could be earlier though, hopefully there is stock by then.

Still, I think I want to wait until they get an MB approval. Sadly the new Castrol Edge does not come in 5W-40. That seems reserved for Castrol Edge Euro Car formulas.

Not me. I'm still using SN in my C350 (only because I had Molygen 5W-40 to use). I will likely continue with the SP rated Pennsoil 5W-40 in my SL400.

I'm sure the Castrol Edge is great oil, but it did not have MB approval and I want something that is MB 229.5 approved. I bought a bunch of it, so I may use it in my 2004 Audi TT. Lots of miles on the car (>255,000). But oil has been changed no more than 5,000 miles during that time. It may benefit from the 50 weight portion.

Engine oils products are like tires... they are vastly different from brand to brand and models.
5w-40 oils can get greatly oxidized with age and heat.
(full synthetic vs. PAO)

amsoil /motul /...
m1 /pennzoil /...

I noticed that true PAO synthetic oils are never cheap.
