Would these winter tires fit the 20inch wheels?
Hi guys,
Got the Ceramic Brakes on my edition 1 coming in. Preparing for the NJ winter, assuming some snow. Im a doc, so gotta get to the hospital / office in crap weather....wife has an escalade, but I'd rather drive mine in the snow
Not sure when wheel/tire packages will be ready for our cars, thus my question if these tires will fit in the configurations listed?

These are not good
the difference in overall diameter is about 2%. You don’t need a staggered set of snows. Just get the same size tire all around. Look for 265/35/20 or equivalent like 255/35/20

Yes
official winter is 265/40/19 Michelin Alpin Pa4 101v. Wheel size is 19x9 front et 25 and 19x9.5 rear et 55 I believe. Up here in Toronto you should be able to assemble this kit for about $5500 or so tax in. Just don’t buy the tires from Benz directly lol...

I hear you and thanks! Are you seeing any problem with fitting 265/35 and 295/30 on the original 20Rs? I really don't want to have two sets of wheels

See above.
My research indicates the 255 width 20” Tire works on all 4 corners as it’s very close in overall diameter to the 265/40/19 factory fitment diameter.

Me personally
I’m on the fence. Seriously considering a set of 19’s for the winter. I know it would add 3k to my cost but the payback would be taller sidewalls and more compliant ride on winters broken roads. Also swapping tires makes that I’m stuck to a 20” wheel down the road. Regardless which way I go I’m not going to stagger my winter tires as there is no need to do that.

Winter tire
I'm expecting my e63 wagon in January. I ordered it from Mercedes of Morristown NJ
I call Michelin and they said to call back in December and they'll have the new sizes for 2018 then.
Im considering putting the Michelin pilot sport a/s 3+ all season on if they make it in a 20 and forget about doing a summer and winter tire.

Will a 19" wheel fit around the carbon ceramics? I was under impression I am stuck with 20"?

I’m wondering the same thing. But I went to the German website and configured an E63S with carbon ceramics and it let me keep the 19s. Maybe it is an error in the configurator. I hope not.

Too many
One tire to consider is continental DWS " dry, wet and snow ", they are ultra high performance all season tire with very good snow traction
review them on tire rack
and that will avoid back and forth switching
I have them on my 16 E63 S and we have hills in pittsburgh and probably more snow than jersey and did very well last winter and doing same thing this winter
also summer performance is the same as oem tires

Do not use the 3+ a/s. My late-16" RS7 performance was murdered at 2000+ miles because I did not hv traction on a light snow day and had to stopped on road shoulder, only to be a sitting duck for two suvs which rammed into it twice.

They have to have winter tires on cars in Germany and other places in Europe starting in October. You'd think they would have some kind of a blessed tire identified by now.

The problem is that in Germany and countries south of Germany doesn't really have a real winter..
I would avoid all "high performance" winter tyres, there is no such thing as a high performance winter tyre that actually is good in real winter conditions..
With real winter conditions I'm talking about heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures..
Heavy snowfall=20++cm (8inches or more) in a few hours.

go fast grocery getter wagon
^ But the mindset of some people is they don't want a noisy winter tires, esp. driven on highways with dry pavement on most winter days. The typical metropolitan cities generally can clear the snow and icy streets within a few hours time after a moderate to heavy snow fall. For me, if I have a choice, I would look at the high performance winter tires first and then onto a dedicated winter tires as the fallback option.
I do agree with you that those high performance winter tires do not function that well during a big snow storm with lots of snow and ice but that's a trade off that everyone has to make.

My experience is that the best studless winter tires actually are a lot less noisy than summer tyres and high performance winter tyres..
I've been using Nokian Hakka R2 since 2013 and they are very quiet.

I've had good experiences with Dunlop Wintersport 3Ds and Blizaks on my Audi. I'm hoping to find something similar for my upcoming E63. I live in Colorado and go to the mountains most weekends so I need a legit snow tire.
