The driving assist has trouble in snowy conditions and some construction zones too. It also doesn't apply enough torque to the wheel to deal with the turning radius of some highway corners and the occasional interstate road.
I'm not sure though that the maneuvering assist is the same thing as driving assist, given the screen shot of the menu. It seems more parking related. I did use the parking assist to self park, but I'm not sure I ever used the maneuvering assist.

After some internet searching, i was able to find this:
Another new feature is maneuvering mode whereby the camera remains switched on in a forward gear for a defined period of time or defined distance.
It doesn't say it's "maneuvering assist", so I'm not positive this is the answer, but it makes sense given the menu that it is on.

I found this on page 193 of the 2018 E Sedan Operator's manual. Looks like it has to be on to enable some of the drivers assistance functions. Seems kind of convoluted.

MANEUVERING ASSIST
The assistant constantly monitors the vehicle's surroundings by means of ultrasonic sensors. Using the steering angle and driving speed, the system calculates the car's intended path and identifies any obstacles that could get in the way when maneuvering into the parking space.
In the event of an imminent collision, the assistant applies the brakes in good time until the car stops, thereby preventing expensive and annoying dents or scratches.
SYSTEM BENEFITS FOR DRIVER

SYSTEM BENEFITS FOR DRIVER
- Lends a helping hand when maneuvering in tight spaces
- Helps prevent accidents when parking and maneuvering and thus damage to the sides of the vehicle

Awww so that explains what maneuvering assist is, I do notice with it on when I go through a car wash the dash lights up with all kinds of lights and it starts making all kinds of sounds which is normal because all the brushes are close to the car. When I back my car into the garage it has to be up fairly tight to the wall there again the system goes nuts. I like it though, it makes it less likely I'm gonna scrape the wall.

Too many
this was one of the exercises at the AMG academy
the idea is collision avoidance and the car will assist you , actually intended for high speed collision avoidance
exercise details:
Launch car and they want you to reach at least 60 mph , then one instructor will switch a light for you to go either right or left and then stop from 60 to zero without hitting the cones
and the E63 was the car used for this exercise

No No, this is for slow Maneuvering only,
Not to be confused with:
Parking Assist or Remote Break assist or Obstacle Avoidance Assist or Garage Park Assist or Home Zone Park Assist, and the zillion other assists it has
