Ordering an E63S Sedan This Week!
Hi all,
After test driving a wagon, my wife and I are convinced that this is our next AMG though in sedan form. The paint will be Diamond Silver with carbon fiber in and out, sport exhaust and a bunch of other options. We'll be ordering this week but I have to either trade in my C63 or sell private party. It's really convenient just trading cars in but they always give less than it's worth but selling private party can take some time and one does get a lot of people who just want to drive the car but aren't serious buyers. I was offered $32k for my C63 by the dealer (P31, carbon fiber interior, porcelano Nappa leather, limited slip, PSS tires, cargo nets) and the car only has 22,506 miles on it. Also the warranty is up on 4/20/18 but I do have an extended warranty that I'm going to cancel tomorrow. Should I just trade it in and be done with it?

I had a 212 2012 E63 AMG Wagon as of last June 2017. I tried to work a trade in on my 2018 AMG Wagon but could not do it for a fair price the dealer was talking 35K for the car. I found a guy who had a 2015 S550 which I wanted for all the highway driving I do and traded it for that plus 20 grand. The S550 was worth around 65K at the time so it was as if I got 45K for my 212, ten grand more than the trade in. So I'd say if you can be a little bit of a wheeler dealer you can do a lot better by going it on your own. Don't forget the Soft Close Doors, the Air Balance package, the 115V outlet and possibly the acoustic package on your ordered car. All are fairly reasonable priced options and in my opinion worth it.
private party sale can be very difficult and frustrating
you will have a bunch of tire kickers , and sleazy used car dealers calling and scammers
get 2-3 quotes from MB dealers or even carmax or similar legitimate used dealers in your area like car sense
ask dealer to show you auction numbers on your car , and see how much they are fetching at auction
the E63 S is an expensive car and there is room for negotiation with your dealer either on price of your car or discount on new car

Start with a Carmax quote, and you can negotiate up from there. That said, they will give you a terrible deal regardless, and you need to realize that Carmax sales have likely two further sales with mark-ups before an end user gets it. I have found Cargurus.com to have accurate private market estimates. I started down that path with my old Audi B6 S4, but one of my employees decided to buy it.

I did the same as you. Test drove the wagon, which was very nice, but ordered a sedan. I too wanted the Diamond Silver, however, that color was discontinued for the model year 2019. Ask your dealer for a copy of the dealer order guide (DOG). The main ordering changes for 2019 are the discontinuation of two outside paint colors, the Mercedes door projector option (15A) may be included, you have to separately order the HUD, and best of all there is a heated steering wheel included to the warmth package. I ordered the sedan in iridium silver metallic, with all the carbon packages except the engine cover. That color is popular I know, but it hides dirt and looks great, the beast will always look clean. My current X6M is carbon black, and looks clean for about 1 day after cleaning. I have a build slot in June as of now, but who knows.
Cheers,

WHAAAAAAAAATTTT!!!!! Somena beech!! As I read this about the discontinued colors my sales rep called to confirm this just as the order was to be submitted. Oh well, back to the drawing board (for exterior colors anyway). He didn't know anything about the steering wheel though.

1) 2014 M5. Nobody came to look at it. Several people reached out by email to negotiate a price. One agreed the price, showed up with a cashier's check and I signed over the title. He didn't even want a test drive.
2) 2015 C300 - Same thing. Some email offers, I accepted one offer. He asked to meet me at a Chase branch and wired me the money on the spot after seeing the car. Only had to show the car to the guy who bought it.
3) 2015 Jag F-Type - Had one test drive with someone who didn't buy it and they seemed pretty genuine people. Second prospective buyer flew in and bought it on the spot.
4) 2013 M5 - Sold it to an out of town buyer from a car forum. No test drive, no in person meeting. He wired funds, I signed over title and he flew in to drive it home.
5) 2012 550i - Sold to a guy sight unseen and shipped the car direct.
So no real issues with tire kickers. As for sleazy dealers offering me lowball numbers - it's not a lot of effort to ignore their voicemails or emails.

And they will be coming before enough are photographed to see what they look like.
