More Info on the Three '18 ED 1 Wagons

Hi everyone,
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. As some of you might remember, I've been trying to find out why only three of the ED 1 wagons were built and asked for help from all of you. Well, one person (sorry, I don't remember who it was) speculated that they were commissioned by someone who had connections at MB for a show or some sort of thing. This is close as I spoke to a sales associate while getting the diff oil changed at MB of Laguna Niguel yesterday. He said that the GM had one built for himself as the wagons are all he drives and the other two were built just because. The GM acquired two of these and MB of Westminster, CO got the third which I bought. Anyway, I didn't think that the ED 1 could be custom ordered in the U.S. but I guess if you have the connections anything is possible. By the way, if anyone is interested they have a Selenite Gray Magno 2019 sedan and wagon on the showroom floor. The wagon has exterior and interior carbon fiber including the rearview mirrors and the engine cover as well as badge delete. Both have steel brakes.

Hello izzy63,
I'm not gloating at all. I have been curious from day one after reading about the existence of these three ED 1 wagons as to why they exist and how they came about. I merely thought some may be interested in what I've found out about them and that is all. Yes, I own one but please do understand I don't feel any more special than anyone else who is fortunate enough to own an E63s sedan or wagon. The E63s is a great car period.

They buildt a lot of so called Edition 1 wagons, however only a few buildt for the US.
Edition 1 is really just an option that they wanted to make a bit more exclusive in the US.

Yea that color looks great especially on the wagon. You certainly have a really nice one especially with the carbon ceramic breaks.

I believe that the Ed 1 sedan and wagon in both selenite gray and night black magno could be ordered in the European market but here in the states we only get what is allotted to our market and for 2018 it was 213 sedans. As I stated in my original post the initial wagon was built for the GM at MB of Laguna Niguel and the next two not sure why but I do know that the GM also acquired the second one which I saw on the showroom floor a few months ago. I'm assuming that that one has been sold but the GM is not selling his, so far anyway. I'm not sure how many ED 1 sedans/wagons were built outside of someone ordering this option. I agree with you that this edition is a bit more exclusive in both the sedan and these few wagons but the weird thing is that all of the sedans are identically equipped but the three wagons aren't. By the way, the Edition 1 package is P88 and amounts to $22k (at least for the wagon).

Probably difficult to understand for many in Europe who are used to a la carte MB configurations that the US has extremely limited scope in options/packages. These wagons are very special because they could not have been ordered online, at a dealer or at headquarters even if coming in with a couple suitcases full of cash.
Apparently one person in the US had the desire and connections to make that happen.

It doesn't mean that these cars are worth any more than any other wagon, but they "1 of 3 US model" unique.
