AMG Track Day: Lime Rock 2019
I am a bit slow to post, but last Friday I was at the Lime Rock AMG track event (ran Thurs-Sat). I'm sure some other folks from this forum were at one of those days too. Thurs was a total wash-out, Saturday was all sunshine, but Friday was rain in the morning until noon, when the roads dried. Despite the dry afternoon, the GT R did not see any action on the track (or anywhere). I was in the grey group, which had a wide spectrum of talent. One guy won the timed event for the day, while other guys were sitting out most of the day or always in the grass in some events. I whole-heartedly recommend anyone with an AMG 63 to take advantage of the free track day. And for anyone with $1800 to burn, spend it this way. The events include:
* Skid-pad for drifting: C 63S. Mine was in the pouring rain, which helped and I hooked up a couple times from point to point
* Evasive safety move: SL63. Tough on the wet course, but still impressive. Included drag-race and "land in the box" stopping
* Timed course: CLA45. Tight course with 330-degree circle that was the make-or-break on winning
* Track time: GT S. Sweet and so happy to have had dry pavement. Car is so planted and so quick out of the corners
* Short-track: E 63S sedan. I liked this a lot as I could see what my car (or close to it) can do in quick turns, hot exits and serious braking loads. CCB cars only.
* Some various pro-drills: auto parking (yawn), GT 63S 4-door race-start & RWD drifting, and of course the hot laps in the GT S
I didn't take nearly enough pics, but will share any good ones from the AMG Academy site.
Cheers
The GT R was not to be driven in the rain.
Tasty morsels to drool over on the way into the tent for breakfast, lunch and the post-track aperitif.
The GT S was more-than-enough car on dry pavement... esp when the 'pros' took us out for some hot-laps!

I went on Thursday and had a great time. In addition to the activities the OP listed we also ran the SLC43 and C43 AMGs on track, which taught me the difference between having CCBs and not. We had the GT-Rs out all day as the track had dried enough by the time the safety brief ended. As previously stated, anyone who can make it to one of these events should definitely go for it, I think the track time alone in the GT-S and GT-R is worth it.

Not my pictures! I wish, haha. Those are from the AMG Academy website. I did enjoy racing in the C43 and SLC43 AMGs as they are very easy to toss around the track but after driving the GT's you do feel the difference in power to accelerate, corner, and brake. My pictures were not quite as exciting but here are a few:
SL63's about to go drag racing
C63s for drifting
E63S in between Short track attacks
GT-R, GT-S, SLC43 and C43 ready to open up at Lime Rock
One (and a half) more E63S because they are truly amazing cars

Nice to see "Continental" stickers onboard as an AD, but Michelin tires on wheels

Looks great guys. Currently wait listed for Laguna Seca in November for the advance and pro courses. These seem to sell out quite quickly unfortunately. If I don’t get either I will have to call and see about extending my 12 month grace period. Happy driving.
